I have found this many feathers in Kiwis cage the last two days. Is it normal this time of year, or should I be concerned? Before I was just seeing downy feathers. :-/

She is a happy bird, I spend a lot of time with her. I work during the day though. I hope it's just molting!

Check for any bald patches...A molting bird shouldn't have areas of skin or large patches of down feathers showing.

It looks like normal molting; the feathers are not chewed up or broken, they came from different places on the body. As someone said before, if you don't see any bald spots, you're just fine. Although, these spots don't show up immediately, after maybe a month or not at all - the bird may look kinda scraggly in places. Also, even if you see chewed up feathers, it's not always a reason for concern: one of mine amuses himself by chewing up large feathers that fell out on their own.

If you keep your bird amused and stress-free, he'll stay happy! Lots of chew toys (pine cones are a blast with mine) and lots of space.

When Sassy molts, it is generally the down feathers she looses and not the feathers. If she is plucking her own feathers, well this could be caused by alot of things. Example if you have a cat well this could be causing the plucking. Bordem can cause plucking too. If placed infront of a window were a outdoor cat may be eyeing the parrot. We have a small dog and cat plus Sassy. Sassy nips the dog to get it to run. Not intimidated at all. The cat is declawed so she can't get to Sassy. But some birds would be intimidated and this can cause plucking. If bord and plucking, well this is hard to break this habit. Anytime bord the bird will pluck feathers.
