A couple of days ago I became the owner of a 20 year old blue fronted amazon. I know she just doesn't like me right now, but this thing that she's doing has me concerned. She starts it randomly and doesn't stop until I leave the room for a minute or two, from that I thought I was behaving in a way that made her feel the need to act defensive, but I could be doing anything, moving slow to sitting in a chair with my back to her to being in the opposite side of the room doing nothing. So yea...Is she okay?

What is she doing? I watched the video but not sure if I'm seeing what you're seeing.

She seems to be raising herself up and leaning away?
If thats the case then she's unsure of you and wants you to back off a bit.

Just sit nearby, sing, chatter, interact without getting too close and 'direct' with her. She'll soon enough adjust :)

I don't see because the video is too short to make sense of anything. Is she leaning side to side? A longer video would help!

ah sorry, she's puffing up her feathers, leaning back, and doing some weird sounds that get louder and louder

edit: I had to keep the video short to be able to send it to the original owner also. If she does it again I'll try to capture it for ya'll

You know now coming home on the computer and looking at it on the big screen. It looks like a breeding behavior to me. Are you sure it's a girl? Seems like a male behavior to me....

Actually, I was thinking the same thing after I read over more information about parrot behavior. The original owner named her Madison, and was always talking about "her" so I just assumed it was a girl, is there anyway to check without consulting an avian doc?

Also, here's a longer video, immediately before the video was taken she/he was eating treats out of my hand and whistling with me, so I thought it couldn't be a defensive thing, but then she also started walking backwards. Thanks for the help, and the time ya'll took to read the post, I appreciate it.

Hey Bug, welcome to the forum. After watching the 2nd video, i'd guess she's a hen. Guess is the key word here.DNA test is the only real way to find out. Regardless she doesn't seem to be doing anything i would be alarmed about. I'd read up on the many threads here and ask question, congrats on giving an older bird a new home. She's very pretty and looks to be in good health.Good luck and hang around ,learn about living with your zon.

I agree with hen. It doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about. You will eventually see all kinds of odd things birds do.

I agree, it dosent look like she is doing anything out of the ordinary! My Zon does lots of different things that seem a bit unusual sometimes, but I have got used to all these funny little things that she does now :)

Welcome to the Forum :)

Sweet, makes me feel alot better, thanks for the info and the welcomes!
