Well Suki's aviary is complete. She absolutely loves it, and its huge. 2.5m by 1.5. So the other day I had a random thought pop into my head. It was just a thought I'm not sure whether I want to do it but with so much space im tempted to wanna get a few more birds, like one or two budgies, or a cockateil. Is there idea even slightly possible or just a silly thing to do? I knew a breeder once who kept cockateils and budgies in the same aviary with no troubles but Suki is a galah...so what your opinions? Don't worry I won't take offense if you call me an idiot for even considering it.

The Galah should not be mixed in an aviary with smaller birds. It is a recipe for disaster. They should not even be allowed out together, without strict supervision, and even then...I would not do it. Accidents or aggression can happen in the blink of an eye, and a small bird would be no match for a Cockatoo.

I thought so. Just thought I'd ask anyways. I want more birds eventually but I don't want any more cockatoos.. is there anything you think would mesh well with Suki?

Any birds mixed in one flight/cage has the potential for aggression. Even pairs have spats that can get brutal, and sometimes have to be separated. I do not specifically know Galahs enough by experience, but my knowledge of birds tells me if you want a flock of birds, better to build another flight and work on one there. A mixed aviary can consist of canaries and finches, or budgies, or cockatiels, or lovebirds, etc.

When I was a child, we had a couple of budgies; we once came downstairs to discover that one had brutally pecked at the face of another.

So things can happen with any birds, even when of the same species. I'd hate to think what an uneven match would result in.

Nah, it'll never work...

These two are never in a closed cage. They sleep wing to wing in an open cage we cover at night.

Well Suki can't live uncaged in my house as I have doors open most the day to let my dogs out. It's not that I want a flock of birds more I have limited space and would be great if the birds I might get in the future could share with her. But i won't worry bout that. for now my focus is raising my one cockatoo right. She's gotten quite independent now which is excellent, still loves her humans but doesn't think its the end of the world when we leave her.

That avairy is the perfect size for just her. Aviaries are meant for birds to fly in them so you want it to be big. If you crowd it with other birds there will be no room for her to fly, which defeats the purpose of an aviary.
I have an 8'L x 4'W x 6'T aviary and I only put two green cheeks at a time in it so there is plenty of room to fly.

Thanks for your input guys. Suki doesn't know how to fly yet so there are sticks e
Leading to everything important and a ramp from the ground so if she falls she can get back up. She seems to really be enjoying it already. So I wont put any other birds with her. Thanks

Suki can't fly, yet? At 6 months old?

The breeder I bought her from clipped her wings before I bought her. When she grows back I'll not clip them. But for now she tries but has bad control and crashes a bit.
