As ive never owned conures before, let alone hand reared, i am a little paranoid about getting the adult diet correct. Theres so many variations and options its a bit mind boggling.
In a previous thread i mentioned that baby food has come to an abrupt end. There was no gradual decreasing in baby formula. He has just decided hes not having it anymore.

Here is a list of foods he actively eats and enjoys every day.

Cockatiel tropica seed mix with pried fruit and veg included.
Grapes
Apple
Pineapple
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Toast
Rice

And lastly... A naughty bit of fruitcake here and there!

I will be trying more vegetables as we go along, but do you think this is an acceptable, sufficient diet for a newly weaned baby?

im in the process of changing marleys diet and I've been told the following by his vet..

chicken bone (boiled)
chickpeas
sweet potato
brown rice
boiled egg in the shell
cheese (small amount)

and don't forget pellets are good :)

Thanks for replying. I have sweet potato waiting to be cooked. We will have it with dinner tonight so i will add a teaspoonful to his bowl and see if he likes it.

I didnt know cheese was good for them.

I shall all these things ago. Thanks

like i said this is what my vet said for Marley my amazon it may be a little different for conure but i can't imagine it being a huge difference.. there are tons of thread in the nutrition section of the forum :)

I'd personally wouldn't put him on a cockatiel seed mix, but a pelleted diet instead.

As for the current diet being sufficient, I'd say you have lots of room to add a wide variety of other foods as well.

Thank you for all the links Wendy. I shall go have a read.

On the avoid list i saw caffeine. Last night Chunky made a bee line for my coffee cup and drank a couple of mouthfuls before i noticed and took it away from him. Is it toxic like a poison, mor, just best to avoid for the same reasons humans shouldnt have too much?

I would avoid letting him drink your coffee-- there's sugar and caffeine, which their tiny, delicate systems cannot process well.

I dont take sugar in it. So far, hes never managed to steal more than a sip! :)

Sugar or no sugar, caffeine is not good for them- even if it's just a sip!
