Is this signs of the ring developing?

Hi my Alexandrine is some where around 4 months old. I noticed feather under the neck turn dark, however I was told that the ring doesn't appear till 18months...please experts can you'll advice. I have attached the photo for visual reference. TIA

Hi, no that is what is called a shadow ring. Both sexes get them as youngsters. It doesn't give you any information on gender. That is definitely a young bird too.

You'll have to wait I'm afraid! 18 months is a little early for a ring, but some males will get it then. It will probably appear as a few jet black feathers around the lower beak and then just keep coming!

How can some say what sex they are even without DNA test. Iā€™ve asked breeders and they have just said itā€™s down to experiance and stop there with no explanation.
Iā€™ve asked the vet and they want Ā£80 to test them
