Tori - Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
It’s been fun trying out different kinds of music for Tori! As she is in the middle of molting right now and has been a bit on the grumpy (I’m trying to be polite here) side :16:, a couple of days ago I put a radio next to her cage and it really seemed to soothe her. After some experimentation I have found that she is not a country fan, HATES classical, and prefers classic rock! The crazy thing is, I broke down and bought her an Amazon Alexa today! I noticed that while Tori enjoys the music on the radio, the commercials drive her CRAZY! Now I can set her Alexa to play whatever is keeping her happy at the moment with NO COMMERCIALS! They even have a station for birds (though I wasn’t very impressed with it).

Are your feathered friends music fans?

Bo flies to me whenever I sing anything, which happens to be nursery rhymes and short folk songs. It's my most reliable method of getting him to come to me. Sometimes he sings, without recognisable lyrics or a tune but clearly singing nonetheless.

He doesn't visibly respond to anything I play, though, and I've played every genre you listed and more. It has to be a live performance or he's not interested. :D

Unfortunately I’m not much of a singer so I haven’t tried that yet...maybe I can get Alexa to teach Tori some nursery rhymes, LOL! She does seem to be a fan of ā€œKids Bopā€ which is just Pop Music that’s been redone so it is ā€œkid friendlyā€!

Welllllllllllll, I voted for Rock, because when it comes to actual mimicking, the Rb loves J-Lo and other female singers whose music has a strong bass. I have shared a vid of his version of J-Lo's "Booty" that cracks me up. I have also shared some opera riffs and a very lame attempt at the Happy Birthday song. My ol' man is doing his best to get the bird to sing the Baby Shark song, just to spite me! The Rb can't whistle and doesn't dance, so those are about all the clues I have as to his musical interests.

It was so interesting to think about the new possibilities in music! I guess the Rb (and I) are still stuck in the olden days!

McCoy doesn't seem at all interested in music. He has experienced mostly rock and metal and seems very nonplussed, I admit I haven't tried anything else because it means I'dhave to listen to it too! He does get chatty when I play my flute in the next room though and I can here him saying all the things he says to me and all the things he says to just himself when I play. I did practice with him out of his cage once, but he wanted to sit on the flute, which made it a little tricky!

GaleriaGila how do I find the videos of which you speak!!?!?

You put on some Adele, or even sing it yourself, and Parker is entranced and stares holes in you, he loves it so much. He is particularly smitten with ā€œwhen we were youngā€.

He also absolutely adores sitting on my piano While I play. He becomes very replaxed, very quiet. Again, almost entranced. But different from when Adele comes on.

Well, I am a big fan of all genres. However, I listen to classical when I'm cleaning. So, Levi is a big fan of Mozart & whistles :music: "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" :music: and very well, I might add. :D

LOL...Chris...Parker Doodles is in a zone!! LMBO!

Music is on in the house all day. We listen to classic rock. Amy and BB aren't very interested. When Jonesy was with me,he went bonkers whenever Pink Floyd's " Comfortably Numb" played or Led Zep's "Kashmir". His hat would go straight up and he'd jump and throw his head back and forth (as a lot of 'too's do!) and yell his fool head off.

Smokey liked Three Dog Night's "Eli's Comin'" and would bob her head up and down while shufflin' on her feet and "wooo' along. These creatures amaze me more and more lol.

Callum really likes high-pitched music. He's not a dancer, he's a screamer. If he likes it, he screams. If he doesn't like it, he just stares at me like "Dad! What is this garbo?"

The quickest way to Callum's heart with music is if I sing along to it. Currently, his and I's favorite are Miracle Pill by the Goo Goo Dolls lol.

He also likes the Overwatch music, but I play that all day, so I'd be disappointed if he didn't at least tolerate that at this point

my boys have eclectic taste

both love classical, and love short sessions of thrash or death metal, bit of everything

this is by far both their favourites though, they both anticipate the whistle bit (other whistle songs don't get the same reaction)

Salty is like his Dad, very eclectic tastes. He likes Gospel, bluegrass and bagpipes. He will sit on my shoulder when I play fiddle and mumble in his quiet voice ( and eventually try to eat it). Opera too, especially female divas - those get him singing, loudly.

Parker & Salty are adorable!

Mango n' mochi are in an absolutely quiet house (around ~8 hrs) with occasional birdsong outside as their "soundtrack" nearly every day. They are not fans of any music my wife will play (or at least they don't like Pink or Queen!) - as she puts on her iPod for a bout on the elliptical, they'll start up screeching til she's done.:58: I guess they like the quiet! :33:

Funnily enough they've no problem generally with whatever is on TV though. We spend a lot of weekend mornings cuddled up with them in bed, watching NHK :D

I voted "Other" :
Anything I sing to them...

Trigger's favorite is the bedtime lulluby that I sing and the Star Spangled Banner.
Yoda's favorite is "Rockin' Robin" (but I substitute Rockin' Yoda) and Happy Birthday.

:D

Hmmm...these poll results are making me wonder what birds have against country music, LOL!

Bo loves the oldies station and when we sing to him Gracie loved for me sing to her as well. From metal to classical they love it all :)

Oh yeah!
Pepper, my 22mo old parakeet loves rock, the heavier the better. It’s his cue to talk his butt off, 200+ words includes 20+ phrases & sounds. Check him out on YouTube ..... XTreme Talking Parakeet

I'm believing that there is a strong link between what the Humans like and what the Parrots like!

My birds are generally very eclectic. Several of my red-bellied parrots, though, seem to prefer songs from musicals.
