Pineapple Green Cheek Conure, and now a Cockatiel?
Ok...I'm not sure if this is in the correct area, but it is a question.
Just to make it clear, Peanut, my pineapple gcc isn't experiencing itching...I am.
My left arm, which he seems to want to climb on more frequently is starting to get covered with these little bumps that just itch like crazy!
I did some prelim research online and thought maybe mites, so I took him to the vet. And, the answer to that question is a no. He doesn't have mites. What other things could it be? Is it something I should be concerned about?
TIA

Are his claws a bit sharp and setting up an allergic reaction on your skin? Are you allergic to feathers or something that he walks in? Presumably he walks on your bare skin, if so wear long sleeves for a while and see if it goes.

Not sure of the GCC diet, but does it have any hot peppers (dried or fresh) in it?
That could be an irritant.
PJ, our severe, would chew on hot peppers and when he would offer to give you a kiss your cheek and / or lip would burn.

Just a thought

He doesn't seem to like peppers. He does walk on my bare skin though. I've never been allergic to anything before, except for when I had pricked myself with some fresh shrimp and then put my hand on a mossy rock. My hands swelled up so much that I couldn't bend my fingers. I guess I'll have to try long sleeves for a while. I've

Well...some extra strength hydrocortisone cream and everything is getting better. I hope I'm not allergic to my little guy!

It's very cold and dry where I am, and if Yoda's claws are too sharp it can create irritation like that on my arms. If his claws have been trimmed lately (in the last couple of weeks) then that may not be the issue. In that case maybe he's been walking through something dirty or a food you are allergic to as others have suggested. OR it could be a reaction to something else and a coincidence. Try letting him walk on just your other arm and see if the original arm clears up and the new arm gets the bumps.

You may want to visit an allergist and get tested for bird dander allergy. Conures are said to not have much of that powder at all, but who knows. If no allergies, try a dermatologist, maybe it's just eczema or something harmless.

Good luck!!
