Itchy Beak?

Hey all,

My B&G is displaying a new behavior recently. He will rub his beak on something (stand, cage, etc.) even though it is already clean. He didn't eat much of his food yesterday, or so far tonight. I am expecting I will have to visit the vet (his favorite place) but thought I would see if anyone has had a similar experience with their birds. The rubbing thing implies his beak itches(?). Or maybe is causing some discomfort which is why he isn't eating. There is nothing visibly wrong with it, his poop is normal, his colors and activity are the same too.

Merlin rubs his beak alot. He has allergies this time of year. Could your bird have some congestion?

Mine do that when they are trying to get the pin feathers around their faces.
Maybe they are itching him.

My bird rubs his beak on stuff (often on a person) a lot as a form of affection. Does it look like he's having discomfort?

He is behaving normally otherwise. He is 9, so maybe he is just developing another behavior.

I am sure you will find your bird is grooming it's beak.
All my birds do it.

They make beak buffers for birds to rub the beak and help get off the old layers.

My blue crowned loves to do this all the time. It's almost always a precursor to him puffing out his chest, throwing back his head and singing. lol

If this unusual behavior,it could be a sign of a sinus infection or allergys.Has he been exposed to new cleaning solutions or air scents etc.? I have some amazons that rub their beak alot more than other birds but i'd only be concerned if this is something new.

My amazon always does this after eating, she always cleans her beak. But if your bird is 9 & has never done this before, it seem that it is something else in your case. I would watch to see if his eating becomes normal again very soon.
