I finally got my two babies tested and my gut was right! I got one of each. :D Now I know for sure that they are a boy and girl. :)

Great pictures.

beautiful babies! I wan't to have mine tested but when I asked at the vet visit it was $100 dollars per bird! We have 7 birds.... can we say ummm i don't think so

Congrats on one of each! Beautiful babies:)

Awwww they are so cute! Very pretty GCCs! My vet charged $40 each to DNA my two. So are yours related? If not, did you want them to breed? I thought I was getting 2 boys, and ended up with a girl and a boy, and I have NO IDEA what I will do if i see hanky panky going on, lol.

No thankfully they are not related so if they want to go at it, fine with me! I have a few people I can go to to teAch me how to hand feed or pay them to do it for me. :)

HealthGene is where I got them tested, it's in canada but all you need to do is order the kits, collect the blood samples, and send it off. It took a week for the results to come in through email. I'll be getting the certificates soon through mail.

Thank you!

PrettyInInk, congrats on a boy and girl! :)

Chelle, there is a DNA sexing company in California, although they charge $25 for the test. $20-$25 used to be pretty standard! There is no need to order a kit, simply download the DNA testing order form and print it out! After that, fill in the information with a bit of blood or some plucked feathers!

About DNA Bird Sexing

Here's the Healthgene information. They also have a file you can download and print instead of ordering the kit. However, you may want to contact them first to make sure it's ok to send a sample into Canada! (if they don't have any US labs available)

AVIAN DNA SEXING TEST - HealthGene Laboratory
Avian DNA Test Submission Form

Here's another company that some people have recommended. They also allow you to print out a blood collection sheet and give discounts with more samples that you provide. (also in Canada)

Accu-Metrics- DNA-Vian Testing

The company most often recommended is Avian Biotech, although I have heard that they may not be as accurate as other companies, and I can't even visit their website without my antivirus blocking the website! (I know how to get around that, I just find it rather annoying and haven't bothered to fix it! :D)

wow!! That's really expensive. We had our baby tested and it was only 40 dollars at our local specialty bird rescue/breeder. Super easy and it came back within a week. They just wrapped Indy in a towel and clipped a nail very carefully a little short to get the blood collected and done! took less than a few minutes

Thanks for all of the wonderful info!!

After sending in the samples it took exactly one week to receive results. :) Good luck!
