Glitchtown and I have made the bittersweet handoff and are on our way back to our respective homes. Pictures arriving after travels have been safely completed!
I've decided... He's gotta have a better life.

Hope the journey home was safe for all. Sammy may never understand the how and why of the change, but his well being was at the center of the conversation. A win for all!!

Glitchtown, what a wonderful thing you did for Sammy. I'm thinking of you today.

Here are the photos from yesterday. It was an exciting, long and tiring day for all. We each had a total of about 6 hours to drive round-trip. Oh, and it was snowing....... It was just a wet snow but there were a few times that visibility was not the best and the idiots were out in force (DC area, need I say more?)
It was an joy and privilege to meet Glitchtown and his dad. They are wonderful people who we look forward to keeping in our lives. It is so very obvious that Dad loves Sammy as much as Glitchtown.
Sammy was a traveling champ for both Glitchtown and Conniesmommy. He just sat in his cage munching away most of the trip.
Once we got him home, he immediately climbed out onto Hubby and started to chew on his shirt buttons - pretty much bonded instantaneously. Took a little longer for Sammy to come around to me but, we got there pretty quickly.
Connie was fine until a moment of jealousy flared. No physical interaction between the two but, Connie made it VERY vocally obvious to Sammy that I belong to HER.
Sammy is a champion flyer! He's demonstrated his skills several times to our amazement and entertainment.
Our entire household went to bed super early last night to get some rest but, unfortunately the hoomans woke up way too early. We tried to be quiet and not wake the fids but pretty much failed. Now the parronts want to nap but the fids.........well, you know..........
Thank you again to ALL of you for the support we received in making this adoption happen and through the whole process. This story definitely has a very happy ending. And, yes, I know this is a much different and more difficult transition for Glitchtown and his family. We are extremely grateful to them for allowing us to take Sammy into our flock. I'm sending videos and pictures in an effort to ease the pain and keep Sammy in their lives.
PS - on a humorous note, I know you all are very security conscious but, you just have to know another one of the reasons this just feels like fate is that when you combine the name Sammy with our last name it becomes something that sounds really similar to Sammy Hagar so Carl's dad made this adorable sign for Sammy's cage that says "I can't fly 55". We LOVE it!!!

Wow! I love this story!! Although rehoming a bird is not usually a happy thing I can say that in this case it was a happy ending for all. It's great when the reason for rehoming is in the bird's best interest and the outcome is so positive since the bird is going to a great home. I am happy for Sammy! I am happy for Conniesmom and her family! And I'm also happy for Glitchtown for doing this unselfish deed. It is fantastic that he still gets to be a part of Sammy's life moving forward. You guys made my day!

Nice to hear of a safe and uneventful transfer. Sammy is doubly fortunate to have so many people advocating for his well being.
Looks like a successful homecoming, but watch for the "honeymoon" period. Sammy seems to have had few vices, so he should blend in well and hopefully bond with Connie.

One last update on this specific thread -
Connie and Sammy are doing well. Sammy is most definitely a VERY active little juvenile. He's so much fun to watch and play with but it is like having a toddler in the house! LOL Gets into and chews on EVERYTHING. He gets to get out of his cage a good amount of time to test his wings, play bite and wrestle with his Daddy. Mommy had to get used to him using his beak to step up. With Connie (aka razor beak), I don't dare let her use her beak or I'd be a bloody mess.
Sammy is our healthy food eater where Connie is a junk food monster. She's starting to really like the nutriberries so we are making some progress in the right direction.
The first day of leaving them home alone (separate cages of course) together was rough. I came home early to check on them and found a very stressed out Connie. It took me almost two hours of just spending time with her alone for her to calm down. However, once I got her calmed down, we walked over to Sammy's cage to just talk and let them look at each other and "talk" a little. Everything has been much calmer since and they even enjoyed some time on the couch with their respective hoomans last night just watching each other. Sammy seems to know to keep his distance at the moment.
The VERY good news is that Connie seems to have turned a HUGE corner since we brought Sammy home. I think she was on the verge before but watching us with Sammy appears to have pushed her in a very good direction. My sweet green beast actually took off from her cage this morning to fly to me. That is HUGE for her. Never mind the fact that she actually just did a big circle of the room and landed back on top of her cage. It is still a big milestone for her.
Now, just because I didn't talk about Sammy as much this time, please know he is getting TONS of playtime, hooman interaction and "training" (as I listen to Hubby correct him right now) too.
As I sign off from this specific thread, I just want to thank everyone once again for all the help and support directed towards Glitchtown and myself. I'm sure I'll be chiming in from time to time looking for advice for both birds or posting fun stories of their antics!
