From time to time since Harley arrived, I've offered him shallow water dishes to try out for bathing, but he's never taken to them. I've heard that some Zons don't like water, so I thought that was the case with him...until today.

I brought a squirt bottle home to try out on my yappy puppy to see if I can train her not to be so vocal. I decided to turn the nozzle to mist, sprayed it above Harley's cage, and BAM! Immediate positive reaction from Harley! He spread out his beautiful wings, soaking up every droplet that floated down, and cupped his wings forward while I misted his back. He hung upside down from his orb, looking very much like a happy bat and flapped away.

I'm feeling so guilty that I'd never tried misting him with water until now. I don't think I've ever seen Harley so happy. Right now he's preening and doing the Amazon purr.

I hope he forgives me for depriving him these past 6 weeks.

You didn't know! I'm sure he forgives you just fine! I know a lot of birds that hates the spray bottle like my Malachai. He hates getting a bath regardless whatever way you go with.

You've made an important discovery-- and know that you know, you can give Harley a good misting often. :)

George, my YCA, loved being misted too, and would laugh and sing, and insist that I keep spraying him until he was dripping wet. :D

I LOVE when the Zons get into the bath mode and do the bat impression and go all out! :D

By the time you read this, I'm sure Harley has completely forgiven you. ;)

My zons LOVE water...

My BFA used to hang by one toe from the shower head, and stick his face under the water while doing the "happy flappy" thing...

Don't feel guilty. You are learning about your bird. Now you know. PLUS it can be really fun, and funny!

Feather condition improves dramatically if they are bathed regularly. All my zons and macs get daily mistings, weekly soakings...

My gray hates water so he just gets weekly soakings...
