1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
Well.... If *I* ever attempted this, Kiwi would eat my face off and amputate several fingers! I can't say he *enjoyed* being loved upon, but he tolerated it from Joe. I wanna pick Kiwi up round the body and cuddle him too!:smile040:

" Wha.. Wha.. Put be down now before i eat your fac- oh joe its you... put me down... please...."

Aw... Look at him, how cute. :D Definitely the look of tolerance, not enjoyment! Isn't it funny how they pick and choose who they're more tolerant with... We'll never know why.

Don can do that sort of stuff to Raven (Pi, who is like most zons) snuggle him close although he really doesn't like it. Raven does scream at first though, but calms down. With me he'd be fighting the whole time so I don't try. Then again he's strange, he even screams before stepping up :52:

If it makes you feel better...I can't even scritch Iris yet. I can touch her toes a little when she steps up but that's it. Birds, man. :)

Joe doesn't pick him up like that very often since poor Kiwi doesn't like being held like that. Makes for easy grooming though. Now that I think about it, the poor little guy probably thought he was going to get a talon trimming yesterday! All I wish is that he would let me pet on him or kiss on him a little (he just looks SO soft!). He doesn't like scritches or petting either:( I hope you find Iris is different, but thus is the typical amazon attitude. They don't tend to be real snuggly birds like macaws and cockatoos.

Julie- That is too funny that Raven screams before stepping up:) What a character!

He IS a character for sure :). I've never seen anything like it! He is normally a very quiet bird, he talks, mumbles, mimics annoying coughing... but very rarely makes a scream. He usually only screams before stepping up. When he doesn't want to, and he runs away he screams, but even when he wants to step up over half the time he STILL screams. Some of his antics along with the huge eyes and eye rings make him so nerdy and funny lol :D

Now you're gonna make me get a cute video of Jake being all snuggly. With me and my wife, LOL.

All of my tame pets prefer my husband. Every. Single. One. And yeah, sometimes he can cuddle them when I can't even touch them. Why? I think it's because Josh just exudes a child-like gentleness and innocence (with animals only). When we were dating I had a dog who had been severely neglected and abused, and she was afraid of men above all else, and afraid of Josh above all me. The way that man reacted was as if I had rejected him - it broke his heart. Maybe animals know not to break the poor man's heart?

Hahaha! Yeah, you can see it in his eyes. He's definitely exhibiting some serious tolerance, there. He must love Joe quite a bit!

They do come around sometimes, though. Bixby used to borderline punish my wife, even drawing blood on occasion. But now he's gotten to the point where he loves us almost equally.

Granted, amazons are more prone toward the whole one-person bird characteristic than eclectus, but I'm hoping that only makes it a little harder rather than impossible.

Maybe one day he'll be able to hold off from eating YOUR face as well! :p

@Henpecked- I think we will need proof of this so-called snuggle monster amazon with no gender preference;) Video evidence would be fantastic!

@Silver Sage & Anansi- Kiwi doesn't hate me or anything, he's actually really well behaved for me. Joe and I just interact differently with him, so he in turn, has a different type of interaction with us. I think Kiwi and Joe have mirror personalities, and it's definitely not a "gentle" and "child like" one;). I have a more "nurturing" personality, especially toward Kiwi. Joe grew up with 3 brothers (all competitive and rough with each other like boys are, even his sister has the competitive thing) and Kiwi has that all-male, "I'm the biggest baddest bird" zon attitude. Since Joe is the bigger male, he wins! Of course Joe would NEVER hurt Kiwi, but Kiwi knows he's not the dominant male in this house and tolerates a lot from Joe. I'm much more gentle and soft with Kiwi, and his interactions with me are much more gentle (he preens my hair, he naps on my knee, he is much more calm with me), BUT he knows if he doesn't like something I'm doing, he can push me around a little more than he could Joe:rolleyes: Yea yeah, I know I'm a bit soft with him, but he gives me more kisses and is overall better behaved towards me;)

I wish I could find my old pics of my two long time zons... Pecker and Sally both were exceptionally cuddly.

In fact, my BFA Pecker was a head in the eye socket bird. I didn't even get both feet in the door, and she would launch to my shoulder. By far the cuddliest, most bonded bird I have ever had... and with birds like Papaya (the bird inside my shirt), Sally (my go everywhere red lored), and my two velcro macaws, that is saying something!

I lost her at age 38 to a tumor. There is a memorial on my wall that reads:

"Pecker. My velcro bird. Even in death, your capacity to love was astounding!"

Wow that's amazing !!! How far Kiwi has come. Never say never though. Daves bird"Belly" are Ls2 decided all of a sudden she likes me [and is all over me]. We have had her for YEARS !!!!!!!

I got Pecker when she was 35. Someone left her by the dumpster at the grocery store (cage and all) to die...

She had lived in a cage that wasn't fit for a green cheek conure in my opinion for 35 years, and then thrown out like trash!

And she was simply the most loving creature I have ever encountered... I still miss her dearly!

I wish I could find those @#$% pictures!

Someone left her by the dumpster
That's how I got my red tick coon hound...can't imagine anyone leaving a bird or any other animal like that! Everything happens for a reason...you were mean't to have that bird!

I showed my husband the pics of your husband and asked if he thought we would ever get to that point with Sassy..lol. He said "you might"...(Sassy was flying and landing on him and biting him and flying away:11:...he took it very personal..lol...luckily she hasn't done it recently) I have only been able to scritch Sassy twice..the first time just the other night and the sounds she was making...oh my! Then she let me scritch her a little last night but not much. She is a very independent bird and while I can have her step up very easily now, she still doesn't like to be touched and I don't really think she ever will.

Even Cisco doesn't like to be touched. I can scritch him more often than Sassy. Of course I think they only allowed me to do it because they are molting:o

Birdman- would love some pics of Pecker if you can find them. I know you've mentioned her before and how bonded she was. Kiwi was not throw in the trash, but he lived in a cat carrier for years. It's always amazing to me how these animals who have been treated so poorly can forgive the human species and learn to trust and love again.

@4dunglee- You haven't had Sassy for very long and if she prefers women, your husband has some work to do with her for her to accept him. You've already made some huge strides with her! At first, I was the "object" of Kiwi's rage and he's always (and will always) like my husband better. It took a few years before Kiwi consistently stepped up to me and no longer bit me at any opportunity. But I was patient and kept trying, and he eventually came around:D I may "complain" in a jokey way, but I accepted a long time ago he isn't ever going to be a cuddly thing (not even for Joe) and learned to appreciate and enjoy what he does do (gives kisses, likes to hang out around me, does funny things). Not *every* bird likes to be touched, but every bird does something special, unique and wonderful:) We will have had him 7 years in December:eek:, so the way he is now is reaping the rewards of a long journey with a once vicious and untamed bird:D

GREAT Pics Julie!! Don't feel too bad, even I could not hold Poe like that and I was his favorite !!

Every single picture I have of her, she is pressed up against the side of my face, or headed that way... She was just amazing! (Sally was also a "throwaway" (just not in the dumpster) as were Maggie and Lila.) Some of my very best birds have been other people's throwaways.

They are almost grateful, and even overly appreciative.

That whole birds with baggage thing?! You just have to get them out of that situation, and give them structure and love.

GREAT Pics Julie!!

Except....I'm not Julie! That would be RavensGryf:D and perhaps she would like to share some of her pics (or video) of Robin, Raven or Griffin tolerating some lovings?;)

Ha Ha Ha !!! YES I would LOVE that April
(Does it count that I had just been at Julie's thread :o)

Don't worry you'll have some Brain Flatulence when you are my age LOL
(notice I used the respectable terminology :D)

~Mark....Oh no wait, I'm JOE
