Jealous of my husband!

@Henpecked- I think we will need proof of this so-called snuggle monster amazon with no gender preference;) Video evidence would be fantastic!

Awww, thanks for the video, it made me smile to watch. Jake is such a sweetheart:D! You really shouldn't post videos like that, less you want someone to come steal your cuddle monster in the dead of night;) Does she have so much yellow on her nape because she's older? She would definitely qualify as a cuddly amazon though!

Kiwi comes to me and gives me kisses and likes hanging out with me (and occasionally I can sneak a kiss on the head or back, but he doesn't like it). He's friendly enough, just doesn't want to be touched on his body. Joe *can* pick him up and pet him, but he still doesn't like it even though Joe's his preferred person. We're *working* on the being social around strangers thing. He does have a major vendetta against women, probably because he was not treated well by at least the woman we got him from, if not others in the past. He's come a LONG way from when we first got him and he was un-handalable.

This is the kind of affection I get from Kiwi (KISSES!). Please excuse the "just got back from a hike" look lol:

It gets better with time. The important part is you know what a difference it makes to include them in your every day life. I bet Kiwi will be a snuggle bunny before long. the effort you put forth will pay huge dividends.

PS yes she is "yellowier" because of her age.

Aww..henpecked..the video of Jake was amazing!

And kiwibird, Kiwi is beautiful! Although he's not cuddly now, I bet he will be eventually...he's come so far because of you and your husbands love and dedication to him! You've done wonderfully!

Loved that video :) Jake is the cuddliest Amazon I've ever heard of! She's a beauty too.

Thanks all. yes, she's pretty amazing. Put up with me all this time.

How long have you had Jake?

I also wanted to correct myself for my statement in my earlier post. I believe my poor math skills have got me again, this December we will have had Kiwi 6 years, not 7:54: We brought him home Dec. 12, 2008:green: It FEELS like we've had him forever though:D

44 yrs, took her from the nest in Feb of 1970, approx 3wks old. ( I say it was feb,i know it was the middle of the dry season) We celebrate V Day as her hatch day.

OMG what a fabulous bird Jake is! I only hope to have half that level of affection with Iris someday. Today she flew to me, so I think we're making progress, but she's going to need lots of time I'm sure. In 44 yrs I'll be 83....heh.

Thats a long time:eek: and it explains a lot about her personality! No wonder she loves you so much and is so social and cuddly- she's been loved and cared for her whole life. Well this just has to be asked- any pics of Jake as a baby?

My parents got their GCA Barney as an unweaned baby (he was captive bred) in 1972. He is just the most gentle thing, and any random stranger can pick Barney up and pet him and kiss him and basically do whatever they want to him. He has never bitten either. Even the vet doesn't have to towel him. He too has only been in one family since before he had feathers, so he trusts humans completely. Their wild-caught DYH (who was a adult when she was captured, they've had her since the mid-late 70's unsure exact year, but they got all their birds within a few year period) steps up to and allows *select* people to touch her, but she's much more guarded, even after all these years. She would not just go to anyone, and is liable to lace open a stranger. She especially hates men, they suspect a man caught her or handled her roughly during import/quarantine and she never got over it. Kiwi was not loved for the first 10 years of his (known) life. It's been very difficult to gain his trust, especially me since his prior owner was a woman. He's a whole different bird than the one we brought home though:)

Hey, Richard! Loved that video! Not only for how beautiful and well socialized Jake is, but also for the obvious love that you and your wife have for her. Thank you so much for sharing!

Haha how cute! He looks in a state of shock =p Stephen has taken a huge disliking to Luke! They were fine when her first got home. Now Luke can't do anything right haha he sometimes even flies at him!

Now wait a minute! I have never once flown at Lu... Oh! You meant the OTHER Stephen! Right. I... uhm... I knew that. :p

Sounds like Stephen Senegal is in danger of becoming a one person bird, Sophia. Luke better start schmoozing/bribing soon!

Well...now I am just becoming convinced it's a YNA thing. Jake and Hunter have convinced me they should be removed from the "hot 3 list";) Anyone out there with "cuddly photos" of their BFAs or DYHs so we can clear those species tarnished reputations too lol?

Loved the pics Wendy! Especially the shirt one. Thanks for sharing:)

Sweet picture, LOVE it April !!

That's actually the first inside the shirt amazon I've seen...

Now, my greenwing will do that, and my conures lived inside my shirt.

Not my amazons... (They were always my ear muffs!)

When I got my Sally, this was a bird that had maimed two people, could only be handled wrapped up in a towel, and was due to be destroyed...

Same bird has been doting over me, and preening my eyebrows for around 12 years now. My daughter started handling her within a few months of being rehabbed. She will go to anyone who interacts with her.

Give it time.

I think my daughter was around 6 years old when this was taken...

The thing about amazons is getting them over the hump. Once they get over that hump, they trust you, and that's that...

UNTIL THEN, you just have to be patient and deal with it...

Actually, I have pictures of both (where I don't know!) and my BFA was the cuddliest thing known to man. In fact, Bob was a nape as well, so I guess that makes me 3 for (hot) 3... ?!

Sally was (past tense 12+ years ago) one of the worst biters I've ever come across, and she's a red lored! Allegedly one of the "mellower" amazons. (She was a fear biter. Just had to get her over her fears, that's all.)
