My Red Eared Slider, July has been having a kind of soft plastaron for about 6 months now. I really regret not taking her to a vet sooner, but I thought I had cured it about 2 months ago. Well, no, I haven't. It grew, and got worse than ever. Right now she is dry docking at least 2 hours a day, and we're calling a vet tommorow (they're all closed right now).

I think it's an infection or a disorder, due to neglect (not by me) as a hatchling. Gosh, I'm so confused and frustrated.

I hope the vet is able to get it cleared up, sending healing wishes to July.
Just finished her dry dock (the cat wanted to come in). It's really frustrating that I can't get the Betadine in the area I need to because it's raised and the Betadine just falls off it like water.

UGHHH it's so frustrating, I really hope she gets diagnosed quickly and easily (and with a mild, not severe condition). Thank you for your kind words ❀️

Thank you, if you want to know where this whole thing started (and see some adorable turtle pics), you can check out her first thread:

Apparently it's now my fault because I dry dock her. The pet shop lady said dry docking is bad, but VETS RECOMMEND IT (and apparently dad trusts the pet shop lady who has never owner a turtle over a certified vet).

He did schedule a vet appointment though, so that's good.

I'm so glad you are going to be able to take him to a vet. I do hope that the vet can find some kind of meds to completely heal July.
BTW, July is a great name!

Thanks, my sister named her when she had her (she was 9 at the time, and July had no UVB so she got shell issues).

She has a vet visit this Friday, I hope all goes well!

That's great news!!! Fingers crossed that they will be able to deal with this once and for all.

Yeah, I sure hope they put a stop to this seemingly endless cycle of shell issues she's been having!

Maybe some kind of Vitamin deficiency?
It is always nice to see, how much you care and take good care for all of your pets!
Your pets are happy to have you ☺️

I don't really think so, she gets a full diet with live bugs and plants as well as pellets. It looks more puffy and swollen, like an infection.

In case anyone wants a visual, first pic is her (swollen) shell, second is a normal shell.

Ok, so basically she has some shell rot there, but good news, it started getting way better almost overnight! This is great, because now we can reschedule the vet appointment to a time when there's not much work and other obligations to fill, which would be next week on Febuary break.

So yeah, since she's getting better and finally responding to the meds, we're going to reschedule (but we're waiting another day just to make sure).

I’m glad to hear! Yay July!
