Hello everyone!! I was so excited about this parrot forum that I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Stephanie, me and my boyfriend Erick adopted Mr. Big...a blackheaded caique about a year ago and it has been new experience after new experience with him! He has a crazy wonderful personality but he does not get along well with woman and children in fact he absolutely hates them!! he will literally chase people down my hallway or if hes close enough jump from me to them to attack! I am trying my hardest to socialize him but most are just not willing to take the chance of getting bit. You wouldn't believe me if you saw him with me because hes so gentile and wonderful and hes also amazing with my boyfriend :)

Mr. Big is beautiful! Some birds just seem to have their strong preferences who they like or not. At least he's great with you and your bf!

Thank you!! And yes extremely strong preferences!! Hopefully with more time he will open up more i supose thats one of the downsides about adopting a bird when they are older is you dont get the opportunity to teach them from a young age...just have to hope u can bend and reshape a few of their bad habbits lol

Well, even with handfed juveniles you can never guarantee what their personality will be like. My handfeds had VERY strong individual personality traits, quirks, and preferences from a young age. When some birds form a strong opinion and they "choose" a certain human, or dislike a certain human, there's not much you can do about it. I'm not talking about lack of socialization (that's a different matter) ;).

I do belive in my case that it is partial lack of socialization. ..a friend of mine had him before me and he had a young son. Mr.big and him didnt get along and one day decided he was going to bite!.. hard! After that he stayed in his cage for about 9 months when my friend finally decided that giving him a better home was the best option rather than leaving him in a cage for the next 30 years...once he came to me the biting issue was outrageous for the first 2 weeks until i had his wings clipped after that it was like i all of a sudden had a new best friend. He was so much more gentile and patient and just all around fun to be around, also added bonus was we could take him outside for some fresh air and sun! We've been inseparable ever since! :)

Hi and welcome. He might have good reason not to like small children if he was manhandled by his previous "child". Hopefully he'll change his mind in time when he meets some other people (and they stuff him full of treats :D)
