My husband wanted African grey for a long time. We were searching for a good breeder to buy a baby in a next 6 months or so, but then I found a parrot for rehoming. The owner was not that far from us, so we decided to choose the adoption. After 4 hrs drive I found this poor bird sitting in the extremely dirty and rust small cage. I think this cage was not get cleaned for at least a year or longer. It is certainly did not have any toys inside or even something to sit on. The bird literally had to sit on the floor on his own excrements. The diet of the bird was also very unique: the family was feeding their pet with chocolates, cookies, cakes and other human food with high sugar consistency. The actual parrot food was not found, however the bird was active and looked fine (for mine non-professional eye). I could not turn away and leave the parrot to continue living like that. I do not know much about African Grey, only from what I read, when I was doing my research for the breed and getting ready to get one. Nevertheless I believe from what I saw, the bird did not bond to her owner because of the lack of attention or any sort of communication. What would you recommend to help the bird to rehabilitate. Well, any recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much for attention.
