Moe and Sarah are a crazy pair of 'toos (which I know is redundant), and are nearly impossible to stop from nesting at times, what makes matters worse is that they don't sit, hatch or feed; so occasionally I have umbrella eggs in my incubator and I have a fun filled week of day one babies! Yuk! Lol

This guy hatched this morning and at the time of the photo had only been out of the egg for about two hours

I forgot how adorably ugly day one 'toos are :D

I think day one babies are adorable!!! You're gonna have a fun filled week!!!! Its during fledging time i cant stand....LoL!!!

I have a busy month in November though....

Nov 6 surgical sexing clinic appts.
Nov 12 & 13 bird show in Denver, CO
Nov 15 jury duty
Nov 19 military formal

So my breeder friend will be feeding these day ones :D

Just as soon as the second one hatches I am taking them over to her place.

With such a busy month I am glad that all my other pairs will feed their babies wonderfully while I'm running around.

Fledging time is my favorite in some ways though...lol

Yes, they drive me crazy.... but I love when they take that first flight and turn to look and see if I was watching... they look so proud of themselves!

I can't see the pictures :(

So, I should only have to feed this guy for at most two days...

The bad news is that Moe and Sarah are breeding again (this is normal for them, they don't sit or lay, and they lay 2 to 3 clutches in a row! Stresses me out and I have asked 3 vets about the health of my hen, and they all say she looks great and she will be fine because I feed her so well). But they usually lay the clutches 4 to 6 weeks apart, so I know once they lay one clutch, that I am generally on the hook for several months of day ones, which is the other reason my breeder friend has volunteered to feed the forst clutch. I have done just about everything with this pair... lowered food, lowered light, taken nest away, and the only thing that works is two different cages.... and then they pluck and scream when separated.... There are days I debate putting them out of my misery! They've always been this way, and if I didn't love them so much I don't think I could stand it.

Can anyone see the pic? I see it when I look at the post.

They're such cute little "aliens" that young! :)

I don't see the pic either....

I did see it when you first posted.... now it's disappeared.

Photo problems solved :D

WOW! I've never seen such a young bird up close! Thank you for the experience! Their beaks look so different. It's like a fetal alien I want to hug!

Its just adorable!!! I love seeing them when they first hatch. Everyone I know says its ugly...I carry pics of them when first hatched to show around...lol

I read this thread to my husband and we both laughed out loud at that comment! :D

All there beaks look like that in the beginning... they are soft except the little point of the egg tooth on the front (which will disappear after a few days).

He's a little whiner... usually we wait almost 24 hours before their first feeding (still digesting yolk they absorbed), he only made it about 8 hours before lifting his little head with his mouth open and squeeking... so I gave him 0.8cc of FormulaOne.

This was the second baby as he was hatching.....
