Keeping cockatiels warm

Any suggestions on keeping cockatiels warm for an extended period of time (3 months) without natural gas or electricity present, and very cloudy weather?

it goes to show you how we rely on gas and electricity to keep us warm, and our feathered friends. the only thing I could think of was a fire place, but I am concerned about the fumes it emits. where are u??
either that or remove the bird from the surroundings...by that I don't mean get rid of it, send it to someone who can care for the bird, until you can.

Like I've mentioned in the other post, I had to rely on kerosene heater one winter up north in the Dakotas....It did the trick on keeping all my birds nice and warm, no the fume wasn't practical but it did the trick. In our condition there's no way we were taking the birds out in the blizzard where you can't see a darn thing and the snow drift as high as 8'+ We were lucky that we kept kerosene heaters just in case cause living out in the country during winter time isn't the safest place as our closest neighbors were over half a mile down the road. There were people that was only like less then 50' from a house that died during the storms in the dakotas cause you can not see through the blizzards....

It would depend on what climate you live in... If you can keep yourself warm enough, your birds should be OK...

Does the cage have some sort of nightbox on it? My aviary does and for the moment me and my birdies are content with being shut away at night and let out again in the morning. Depending on the future weather and where you live, you and me both may need to bring them inside for the winter. If they are inside already you could consider having their cage heated with light... You know how a greenhouse/consevatory is supposed to work, if you put the cage near a sunny windowsill or in a conservatory it may create the same effect, and keep your birds a little warmer until you can sort something more efficient out.

During hurricane sandy my fids were cold since our electricity was gone for a day and a half, I was orried about them at night . We live on long island so our temerature is medium, winters are freezing but not as Canadian . They would snuggle with me in the blanket so they were a lot of body heat.
