Having a flighted parrot when you've never had one before is both scary and exhilarating. I'm trying to take every precaution. When she first fledged, I took her into a "flight" room three times a day to wear her out and practice technique. I padded everything and covered the mirrors and windows. In a small room, it's harder for them to build up enough momentum to hurt themselves seriously.

Once she gained control, I removed the padding, uncovered the mirrors and raised the blinds by about two feet. I haven't had the guts to raise them any farther at this point.

She has flown into windows and mirrors a few times, but seems to have learned from those experiences. Every once in awhile, I remind her that mirrors and windows are "glass." That reminds me. I should do it more often.

Good luck to Amy! It's harder and scarier when you're older. Babies are fearless. It scared ME half to death when Kizzy was learning, but she was okey-dokey with the whole thing.

Amazing video and Kizzy is gorgeous! I LOVE taking videos of my birds in flight as well! I love the red on amazons' secondaries as well! Who would ever want to clip them?
