Hello,
I currently have a Quaker being hand reared and he is expected to be weaned in January 2014. In late February 2014 I am required to leave him for two weeks but will return on weekends. My wife who has no experience with birds will be caring for him every day. My question is, will this affect my relationship or have any adverse affect on behaviour issues. I will teach my wife some basics etc and to let him out of the cage daily for half an hour. What are your thoughts or advice?
Thanks,
Terry

Make sure your wife is perfectly comfortable handling the bird.

There's a chance that your new Quaker will be annoyed with you for going away during those two weeks, so soon after you bring him home. It could slow down the process of getting to know each other and bonding with each other, so you could need to work a little harder at it when you're done traveling. Your wife should get used to interacting with the parrot, and looking after his needs, so they'll both be comfortable with each other while you're away. :)
