Leg Band: SAU 174 ONC 00 Birthday: September 23rd, 2000 (According to the previous vet)

Does anyone know who the breeder might be or how to decipher the leg band?

Unfortunately the boy (BH Caique) I adopted is much older than I expected, 25 instead of in his teens.

This is my first bird and its going to break my heart . He has medical issues that we are working through, yeast infection, possible nose infection, overgrown beak and nails that were taken care of, and he is a feather barberer on top of it all.

Apart from all of that he is a good healthy boy, was really easy to switch to pellets, and likes to fly a little bit on his own terms.

I am sure he has many years left for you two to enjoy. Parrots often experience some medical issues when switching homes, just make sure you are working with a well qualified Avian Vet. Base everything you do on building trust and he will come round.

Oh and forget about tracing leg bands. THey are only meaningful to the actual breeder - there is no national registration or anything like that.

The bands never have actual hatchdays. The breeders get their bands once a year. The don't make them up with individual hatchdays.

The vet clinic provided separately the hatch day (who knows if its correct I don't know), and the recorded leg band ID (also who knows if its correct I cant read his), but the year of his birthday lines up with the birthday the clinic had on file so Ill go with Sept 23rd as a fun hatch day for him

What I wonder about is where or how the breeder would get metal closed bands with 365 pre stamped hatchdays on them to put on their babies every year.
I'm a member of a budgie society and I get bands once a year with the year my ID and a number. Very strange.
