Little mishap...

Okay, here's my issue. Harley is pretty well mannered and USUALLY doesn't bite... BUT.... Tonight he was sitting with my boyfriend and he bit him a little on the hard side and drew blood. I flushed the spot out with peroxide right away and put neosporin on it. My concern is that is my boyfriend going to get any illness from Harley? Harley was tested for the 4 major bird illnesses (can't spell them for the life of me) and everything was negative. Just wanting to be on the safe side. And don't know where else to ask such a question.

I'm not a vet or anything..but I have 2 green cheeks and they've drawn blood before. I've never had an infection or illness. I would say hell be fine.

I think your BF will be fine I haven't heard of anyone getting sick from a bird bite before.

I've been bitten many times by many different birds and I have never gotten sick. I've never had an infection yet either.

Bird bites are not nearly as dangerous to humans as dog or cat bites most of all. You did the right thing, and I am sure they will both be fine!

I've been bitten so many times by several birds (not tested) and never had any problem. Your BF should be fine.

Okay, thanks guys. he was kind of worried about it and I was telling him that he's not going to die and he'll be fine. But he wanted to make sure. Haha I appreciate you guys responding.

No. You don't get anything from a bird bite (unless of course their was food stuck to the beak at the time, and that contaminates the wound.)

And I'm sorry but a conure bite is just a pin prick. It hurts, but there's no reason for BF to cause high drama over it...

Thank you Allee. And Birdman, I think his concern was because harley and bitten him where he has a mole and took the top half of the mole off. Harley had blood all over his beak and in his mouth. I was making dinner so I didn't know until I came in to check on them both.

Did he really bite him, or was he grooming him, and just decided that the mole didn't belong there?!

When she was younger my red fronted macaw had a habit of removing freckles from the back of my neck that obviously didn't belong there...

OMG That hurts!

It's a night and day cause and effect... One is a sign of aggression, and the other is a sign of affection. How you approach the bird after something like this is the opposite too!

Totally agree with Birdman! My JoJo is on a mission to try to smooth out my skin any way possible! He didn't bite, he was only concerned with neatness.

Sweepea drove me NUTS for a couple of months about "grooming me"...

SHE DIDN'T BITE, BUT SHE DID "REMOVE" SPOTS... the only real difference is the depth of the puncture wound.

And conures are just shrunken macaws... so it fits.

If I have a scab, forget about it. They obsess over it. Anything they think doesn't belong, they THINK they're doing you a favor, and helping keep you groomed up and looking pretty...

Haha, thanks for sharing guys! Harley does that to my boyfriend. He will crawl all over him and pull his baby hair out while preening or his arm hair. It's hilarious. Harley tries to get my freckles on my shoulder blades and being a redhead I have TONS of freckles. He's never aggressive about it, so it definitely makes sense that he'd be grooming. I really do appreciate this everyone.

MY RED FRONT STILL DOES THAT ONE TOO ME... every morning. I scratch her head, and she preens my arm. This is your WAKE UP CALL!

And God forbid I should have a crooked beard hair, or a nose hair sticking out...

I put up with it, cuz it's a natural instinct that you can improve, but you really can't break them of. And it really is a sign of affection.

Like that other adorable thing that happens every day - getting puked on!

Harley has been doing that to me... Feeding me.... I keep telling him that I love him and appreciate his gesture but I'm all set. He doesn't care though. He thinks I need to be fed. It's so gross but I laugh every time because what a way to show someone you love them by regurgitating. Love my little man to death though.
