During my search for a new companion parrot, talking ability wasn't a high priority. It's always a fun bonus when a parrot learns a few words or phrases, but it wasn't essential to me. I didn't know if Little Parrot would ever say anything other than in conure language and it didn't really matter. But he does!
Sometimes Little Parrot will chatter quietly and yesterday when he was chattering it sounded like he said "pretty bird." This afternoon when he was chattering he definitely said "pretty bird" several times. His voice isn't loud and clear but it's understandable. In the midst of his chatter this evening I picked out something else he was saying. "Squawk, squawk, squawk." Often when he's just hanging out in his cage he will look at me and make three little low key squawks. I reply by saying squawk three times, with an inflection and volume level similar to his. And he picked that up quickly. He's certainly a fast learner. He's only been with me for three weeks. He might turn out to be talkative and have a big vocabulary. It will be fun if he does and still fine if he doesn't. He seems to be off to a good start though.
