Hi all, this is Helen G, I have not been on this site for many weeks, I promised pictures of little Scarlett which I purchased at the age of 6 weeks on 2 February. No pictures will be forthcoming. We have been totally devastated!! We had little Scarlet for approximately 2 weeks, I could not understand why her feathers kept falling out, I, naively thought that this perhaps happens to young birds when they start getting "grown up" feathers. I called a highly respected person who is very well known for her exotic birds in the area and told her what was happening. She immediately told me to do some research and get Scarlet to a vet. This was done, a blood test was taken and we had to put our little Scarlet to sleep at the age of 10 weeks!!!! She was diagnosed with beak and feather disease.

Now, unfortunately, our Timneh, Joey who is five years old in June, is also at risk, but we are hoping that he will be okay. We have to take Joey for tests in about five months time and then regularly a few more times before we can be sure he is clear.

This has been a completely devastating experience for me, especially as little Scarlet was already showing a wonderful little personality, and I was her human Mum. I am still struggling to come to terms with losing little Scarlet.

We are still in a process regarding the breeder, as something like this should never happen to anyone.

Oh my gosh, Helen! I am so very sorry to hear about Little Scarlet. :( You must be besides yourself!

I'll keep you and Joey in my prayers, in hopes he didn't contract this deadly disease!

HUGS to you!!

Helen, I'm very sorry for your sad loss and heartbreaking experience. Hugs and Hope for you and Joey.

Deepest condolences.

So very sorry. Agreed that the breeder needs to be involved in making sure it never happens again.
I don't know anything about the disease myself.

Many thoughts and prayers that your timneh stays healthy.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss, Helen. And you're right. Something like this should never happen to anyone.

Despite the short time she was with you, I could tell from your previous posts in that other thread that you had already fallen in love with her.

My prayers are with you and Joey both in this difficult time.

Oh my goodness how awful! I am so sorry for your loss.:( I also will be hoping that your Joey is safe from this terrible disease.

I'm so sorry you've lost Scarlet, Helen. A life unfulfilled can be the saddest sort of passing.

I hope Joey remains healthy.

It just breaks my heart, so sorry....:(

What she said. This is a truly frightening scenario.
