1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
As many of you can tell, I am all about getting Kiwi out to 'see the world'. I think enriching him in a variety of ways increases his confidence, intelligence, bond with us and makes his life more interesting. I also think experiences like this make him not fear things like many birds do. To be clear, it's a beautiful night here in Portland, no wind or rain, 47 degrees out and we pre-warmed up the car. We went out for about 1/2 hour with Kiwi (in his bird backpack) in the warm car driving around and looking at lights. He was SO happy! Busted out his full range on noises (which he does when happy), and even started up a round of the whistle game:D We reinforced the positive experience with some cashew bits. He rarely comes out at night and paired with all the lights (and his love of being in the car) it was a very exciting experience for him! Not sure too many people are able to do this with their birds due to the cold this time of year in many areas, but if you live in an area with reasonable weather and have car-ride lover(s) I highly recommend trying it out as an enjoyable new experience for you and your birdie(s)!

I'm glad you guys ALL enjoyed looking at the lights :). Very lucky little guy Kiwi is!

That's a great idea, April. I'm glad everyone had a good time. Three of my birds like car rides, but I've never taken them for a drive at night.

I am glad Kiwi enjoyed looking at the lights. We have always been going to taking Bundii but have never got around to it. We really must do it.

Glad we did this last night! It's rainy and perfectly nasty out today...

Allee and Bundii- if you guys take your babies out, you'll have to let me know how they enjoyed it!

My OWA Kiwi is not afraid of anything almost. Only thing she is afraid of now is bubbles? and her own shadow. Might me something more, but I havent noticed yet. She used to be alot more scared of different things before and i've worked on it by going outside with her almost every day, letting her experience new things all the time. Even took her to markets to get her used to seing lots of people a.s.o. It's really a great experience for any bird. Kiwi sounds like she is a really happy Amazon! :D Keep it up. :)
