So... somebody screwed up at the DNA Testing center and got the results of the two sun conures i sent in mixed up. (I've confirmed the correct information finally)

Zippo is not a He!

SO

Now i want to rename her because zippo isn't very lady like

(Only been named for like two weeks so it doesn't matter)

Suggestions?

I really like Edith but i planned on naming a daughter Edith (if i ever have more kids)

I'm not too fond of human names for pets anyway.

I also like Malala in tribute of Malala Yousafzai, but that's a little too close to maya i guess... idk

Gypsy! And I hope you're doing well :)

I'm doing well, thank you for asking :) :)

Things are going a little bit better, and the DNA news really lifted my spirits because i guess deep down i was hoping he was a she. For some reason, i get along better with female animals. I guess its a subconscious thing, and maybe there is nothing to it.

I am so in love with this Sun Conure, and she and the rest of my flock, especially Maya, are getting me through a very hard time in my life right now.

Not to mention so many people on this forum have talked with me and given me their support. Thank you, you know who you are!!

I bet Maya is really helping.. she seems like a real gem of a bird :) Do you have any guidelines for a name to help people come up with ideas?

This is the list I had before I knew if Vandal was a boy or a girl.
Leeloo, Aura, Aurora, Echo, Vasna, Lina, Zarina, Daisy, Willow, Isla, Iris, Gypsy

Awww... I kind of thought Zippo was nice for either gender.

How about "Tarika" which means "Little star"

Do you say that Tar ih kuh or tar eee kuh (i am bad at spelling pronunciations)

Glad you got it straightened out :). Now knowing how I am, I'd be still wondering if they got it straight for sure this time and it's accurate LOL.

How bout Zippy? It's close to Zippo.

I prefer unisex names myself, even when I know the sex. I've used the name Gryffin for a female before, then my males Robin, Raven, and my first parrot a Cockatiel named Terry.

One thing I hate is when people in general or veterinary staff assume that they're girls because of their names.

Ohh i do like Zelda, as the legend of Zelda is my all time favorite series (big gamer here) I was like 9 years old when ocarina of time came out and i had a crush on zelda. (i played the original zelda for NES before i got a N64, and i was a fan wven when i was 7 years old , which was when i finally beat it for the first time)

And yes i got it strightened out, i had her tested twice by the original company(second time free for the mix up), and then i had her tested a third time by a second company. The last 2 results were Girl

I'm not a huge fan of unisex names, but some are great!

not sure what i want to name her though. As you guys know, i am TERRIBLE at picking names. it took me 8 weeks just to come up with Zippo, only to have it ripped out. I really dont like zippo for girl though.

Plus i have to please my family with the name because my family is very opinionated when it comes to naming names.

(Guess how long it took for me to name my son Zachary)

Who was the DNA testing company who messed up??

HealthGene - What happened was i sent in 2 sun conure samples together, the sun conure that i decided to keep, and one that my grandparents kept. I added the birds names to the sample cards, and our names. i asked to have the results sent to my grandfather's email for his bird, and the other to mine. The results were sound, but they switched our emails by mistake. This would have been fine but i guess they just copy pasted the names of the birds to the emails. Or something, i have no idea. What clued me in, was in one part of the email i received, my grandfathers name was added, and mine was in his email. We share the same last name. It's probably partially my fault because i sent in 2 samples of the same species, and requested the results be sent to 2 different locations and emails. (Usually when i batch order DNA tests, i have them all sent to me and then i separate and send the results individually) Idk i'm still a little confused.

So the second time i had her tested, she tested female. I wanted to make sure, so i used another company for a double check, and she tested female again.

I think they just switched the names by mistake, probably a copy paste error lol. Happens, even to me sometimes.

I have used HealthGene a lot and never had a problem before, They were very helpful in strightening it out. plus they only cost 12 bucks for a DNA test :D (Free sample cards, then you send in the card with a check/money order)

I also messed up originally because i sent in the samples with the names of the birds and our names, but i didn't send in the contact info like a noob. Which i realized when i didn't get the email after a few days (They are super fast too) So i called and gave my info over the phone.

So the chain of events went something like this.
I sent in the samples with the payment.
They performed the test and got the results but couldn't contact me. (I also used a new checkbook so they couldn't use my info on file i guess)
I called and gave them my and my grandfathers contact info.
The names were switched by mistake
Got the results, i noticed an anomaly in the email.
They had me retest and everything was corrected.

This is mostly all speculation. 2 + 2 = 4 after all. I doubt they fouled a test.
