Green Cheeked Concure
Hello everyone, So I lost my green cheeked concure over a week ago and a couple of days after my mother left the door open and he just decided to leave randomly in the middle of the night. As soon as he went out my mother yelled for me and we both went to look for him. I called his name and he did respond and he was in a big tree in the middle of our suburban neighborhood. It was a HUGE tree between the neighbors yards I kept calling him and he responded and he kept flying around the tree as he was trying to get down, however the neighbor was getting getting pissed that we were in the sideyard and was gonna call the cops so we moved to my backyard and tried to keep calling him. By this point he stopped responding but we kept calling him and it was 2am by the point. We went inside and waited till morning. I felt terrible. But as soon as first light came we went back to the tree and tried calling him but no response. He wasn't seen on the tree either, so we went in car and circled around the nieghborhood and kept calling but no response. We were out there for 5 hours we got nothing, we went back in the house and opened windows and decided to post on the RING app and facebook. We went out the next day around the neighborhood again with objects with his little bell that he likes, but we got no response. We have kept updating facebook and ring - but honestly im just worried for him in the middle of winter. It's rained since then - its snowed a little since then. What else do we do.

Welcome to the forums, @GreenGCC, but I'm very sorry for the circumstances, and about your uncooperative neighbour too. Have you listed your GCC on 911 Parrot Alert yet? You can also check it to see if he has been "found" and perhaps taken in by someone else - pet birds quite frequently land on random people under these circumstances as they see them as a source of safety or food. Some of our members have been reunited with lost birds via their services, the link to their webpage is below...

The link below offers some tips to help recapture lost birds. Even though he's been loose for a while, something here may be of some help to you too...

You should also alert all vet clinics in your vicinity, not just avian specialists, as pet parrots who escape are often handed in by finders who are unable to keep or care for them. Posting on lost bird Facebook pages as you've already done can also be helpful, as is letting your neighbourhood know by means of old-fashioned paper leaflets in letterboxes - that's how I got an Indian ringneck back many years ago.

I hope something here can be of help to you, and that you get your bird back very soon! 🙏 🙏 🙏

I’m so sorry to hear you lost your baby. I’ve been there. Just keep going around the neighborhood and calling. Lost bird flyers are useful; in some areas it’s illegal to put them in mailboxes, so I would suggest leaving them on the porch or on yard gates. You may get some scam calls of people claiming they found your bird, so be prepared for that if you do decide to put your number out there (which, despite the potential for scammers, I think a flyer with your number or email on it is a very good idea).

If you have the neighborhood Ring app, you can let people know on there, too. Or post on Instagram and tag it with your city or ask friends to share it. I think Snapchat has a feature where anyone in the area can see it if you post on the ‘city’ story.

Good luck. Keep us updated. Stay strong. You could very well get your baby back.
