My conure's wings were clipped when I bought him, he was only a few months old. He is just recently starting to grow in his beautiful blue flight feathers, but today, much to my dismay, he has already lost one of the new feathers!

He was wandering around on my desk, nothing unusual, and I saw that the feather was twisted, or upside down. I gently touched it and he didn't seem bothered, and I saw him preening and working at it for the next few minutes, and next thing you know, he was holding the feather in his little hand.

He doesn't seem to be injured or bothered, no blood... what could have caused the feather to fall out so early and should I be worried? He only grew this one in in the last 2-3 weeks if my memory serves me correctly.

Here is a photo of the lost feather- https://imgur.com/a/kuEUB

Wing feathers are my design set /positioned to support each other in flight. When some of the Primary Wing Feathers are trimmed and new feathers replace those cut feathers, it is possible for a new feather to come loose since the other feathers do not provide full support. Or, one of the non-trimmed Primary Wind Feather has based on time been molted.

So, not a life changing event!

Thanks for the info! That makes sense. I just feel bad for the poor guy, he just started growing them and I have already seen an improvement in his ability to "fly".
