This is Lux, my BFA

Lux came to me over a year ago. To start, Lux had an open leg band, which we all know what that means. I dont know all of his history, only the recent. He was a breeder bird for some time and he was sold to my mother (we dont speak, I found out via my father the situation) who neglected him. Eventually, I took him away from her and now he's found his forever flock.

I was nervous at first because he's my first larger parrot. When he came to me, he hadn't had a bath in years and was never taken out of his cage. He sat in front of a window that always had the curtain drawn shut. He would scream for attention but she would cover him up because he was being a bother. He was on a all seed diet and his cage had founds of hulls and poop. He also smelled of urine when I took him. The vet has estimated him to be around 30.

Lux now has a much better life filled with baths, treats, toys, sunny windows with fresh air, veggies and fruits. He gets time out his cage daily and loves to be with me, even if we're just hangin' out...he loves when I read to him. He also loves Celtic music :)

I love him, he's my buddy

I love him! He's beautiful!

My Sydney was neglected too, horrible shape when I got him. Also an open band, estimated 30-31 years old. I don't think he was a breeder, though it's possible, he only had a T-stand, no cage, covered in poop and was like a shell of the bird he is now.

I like to hope that he's related to these other rescues with open bands. :)

THANK YOU for adopting this darling character and giving him a wonderful new life!
Lux must be experiencing true nirvana with all the positive improvements and companionship. Thanks for sharing his story and photos, he's a very handsome fellow!

That second picture brought tears to my eyes. He is a very loved, very lucky man. When rescues learn to love and trust again...there is no greater feeling.

Aquila- That's so sad, its horrible how people can treat animals. Some people, like my mother, need to be on a list of 'Never to own a pet'.
Thank you for rescuing him!

Allee- Lux sure seems happy... he doesnt talk much... only a few words/phrases but he makes a lot of parrot noises, which I join in on, haha!

Band- He's pretty trusting now. He knows he wont be hurt or neglected. He was pretty good about not biting.. I feel like he was just never taken out at either place he was. Just kinda left to be a bump on a perch. :/

My Sydney doesn't really say much. Hello, ByeBye, and laughing is all I've got after several years. It sounds like Lux was left the same way Sydney was. He's pretty tame, but very moody during molting or breeding season and has taken quite a few chomps out of me. He's very attached to me and gets jealous if he's not included in everything!

Aq,

Lux seems very attached too. He also says "hello, byebye, bye-low (haha) and how are you?'
Ive noticed he's leery of men. His tail feathers fan out, eyes pin and will repeat 'how are you?'

Mark can pet him through the cage but is afraid to get close to him

What a beautiful boy. He seems to be so well cared for and loved. Thank you.

Yeah. 30-35 sounds about right with a wild caught/import band. I'd suspect he's at least 25. He can easily have 30+ more years in him.

My little wild caught lilac crowned amazon is 43 now, but you wouldn't know that by looking at her.

I love that second picture.

And the last one, in the "recoil in horror" at the sight of that thing pose.

I see you're over in Jersey, Sooze! Might have to bring Sydney for a little playdate!

Lux looks so happy, loving and trusting in that second pick. Good job on rescuing him :)

Yes! I am in South NJ, where in NJ are you?

Lux looks so happy and healthy :) may I ask how long it took for him to trust you and come to you? I know every bird is different, and my BFA is doing wonderfully in the 3+ months I have had him. I hope he is where Lux is by a year!

Yayyyy Lux!

He sure is a pretty pretty boy!

Thank you for taking him in and giving him the love and nurturing he needs. It's a wonderful feeling to love and BE loved by a parrot!

Lux is gorgeous, thank you for bringing him into your home and heart:) He looks so happy now!
I have a DYH who was also wild caught, she is between 50 and 60. It's so sad to think of them being snatched away from their flock and brought into captivity. Thank goodness you are giving him the life he so deserves.

Thanks! He came to me instantly. He was leery but wanting to trust it seems. I didnt get my first hard bite until after a year, actually, just recently. It bled and it bruised. He got spooked because my fiancee and I almost collided exiting adjacent rooms. He was quiet and easily frightened but not to the point of a freak out.

Happily, I'd like to say that after 1 year Lux has started to engaged ME in playing! He hangs upside down from his cage and lets me tickle his belly and whips his head around with his beak open.:green::30:

I feel the same.. I feel so sad for him and the many other that have been. It makes loathe mankind, really.
I try to give him the best I can...to sort of make up for it, you know?

Ah that is awesome. My Davy was very afraid of hands, and most people. He warmed up to me pretty quick, and now lets me preen his head (when he is in the mood) and will play with me. But he won't step up and panics when he isn't on his cage. He just stepped up on my hand a few nights ago, on his own, so we are getting there.
