Made a wooden Parrot Stand

A real passion project here lol. I was looking at some stuff online and they're pretty expensive and not quite the way I'd like it.

So I used some material laying around at home and what I bought ended up costing me like 15 bucks.

Pretty happy the way it turned out and I really enjoyed making it.

I want to add some toys and something to cover up the iron plates and screws. This is ideal though, I can always have him by my side now while I'm on the computer and no worries about cleaning up the floor.

It looks good. Just wanted to confirm you did use stainless steel l brackets and screws and not the standard zinc plated right? Zinc plated hardware is highly toxic to parrots, but should be easily replaceable with stainless steel. It costs a bit more but is bird safe. So aimless hardware can be ordered online BTW. Most hardware stores have an extremely limited stainless selection.

Thanks, this is galvanized iron I think, didn't know it was highly toxic. But yes I always use stainless steel if Brio gets into contact with it but in this case I already planned on covering it up with special foil(like the carwrapping foil) tommorow after work, is it alright if it's fully covered up and he can't touch the plates/screws?

I'm also unsure what purpose that would serve on a bird stand? A bird could easily chew through that stuff, or just about anything else you could attempt to wrap the hardware in (vet wrap, duct tape etc...). I'd personally just get stainless hardware and leave the perches bare. It's safer and more convenient. Will be easier to swap them out too when your bird chews them up to the point of replacement (which many parrots can and will do to wood dowel perches, or any perch soft enough to chew). Pionus and amazons are similar in their chewing habits, and my amazon chews through wood dowel perches in about 4-6 months of regular use. Some super chewers go through them even faster.

I meant I was gonna wrap it around the part with the plates and leave the rest bare, but I agree long term it would be better to use stainless steel anyway so I am gonna replace them. Quick question out of inexperience though, in terms of having harmful hardware in the room it's only a problem if the bird is actually making contact with it or is it advisable to not even have it in the room? Just making sure everything is set.

It's really only of major concern when used for things the bird will be on or playing with. If your dining table or whatever has some hardware that isn't stainless, it's nothing to worry about. Basically be sure its stainless if it's a perch, in/on the cage or a parrot toy.

Great little stand. You should be able to replace the hardware with stainless steel pretty easily. Please post photos of Brio with his new perches and let us know what he thinks.

You can use some vet wrap, or a safe twine!
Edit: that won’t work for the base! Try googling PVC base for a bunch of ideas!

Now, I don't mean to be a Debbie downer, or jinx you in anyway. I'm just going to say, after you are sure it is indeed parrot safe ... I hope Brio loves it.

My husband made Levi several perches in the beginning and he hated them all.
I eventually had to just buy another cage for my bedroom for him to hangout on. He rejected everything else. So, fingers crossed your sweetie loves it, right off.

My husband made Levi several perches in the beginning and he hated them all.
I eventually had to just buy another cage for my bedroom for him to hangout on. He rejected everything else. So, fingers crossed your sweetie loves it, right off.

Well I consider myself very lucky with this bird. He calmly tries anything I offer him, any type of food I give him, any toy I get him, he's good with everybody else who visits me even people he hasn't seen before. I mean I had him on my finger and brought him to the stand, he went on it on his own and he loves it now. He even figured out on his own that I put the tree trunk disc on top for him as a helipad. Brio is a lovely parrot, a dream come true.

I added a couple of photos, I think you can see he's content.
