Parrots
A Parrotlet called Bobby.
Hiya,

I want to make some birdie bread for my parrotlet, but am struggling to find the ingredients. The recipes say to use cornbread mix. Now I can't find any of that (without paying a fortune postage) so am trying to make my own but with cornmeal. That is if I can find it.

Does anyone in the UK know where I can find cornmeal, or if not, do you know of an alternative recipe?

Thanks in advance :)

I will wait in anticipation to see if anyone knows where to buy cornmeal here in the UK, as I also have been trying to find it :(

Is cornmeal the same as corn flour?

Oh, never mind! It's not the same as the British corn flour (which you can buy at Asda). However, according to google, you can buy it in health food shops and some supermarkets (Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's were mentioned). Usually called polenta, apparently, or maizemeal. :-)

Thanks for the links :)

I found cornmeal on Asda's website, but they didn't have it in my local store. I think you can get some off e-bay, I might have to resort to that. I did find polenta in Asda, and got rather excited, but then realised it was ready-roll stuff and no good for making birdie bread :(

I went into Holland & Barrett today and noticed they had both polenta and maizemeal :)

(In the meal/ dried lentils/peas section)
