Making own toys as some can get expensive

Im making a PVC and wood play gym/foraging tree. I am curious what metals are safe for latches and swings etc. I know zinc is a no no is there any plated metals that can work like brass etc... I know stainless steel is safe but can get expensive!!
also is there any rope other than sisal that is good as it sucks and is flaky and is a pain to try and work with.

I got some cotton cord sash, but I'm no expert to tell you for sure that it's ok.

From what I'd read when I looked it up, natural fibres that haven't been sprayed (yeh, right) were recommended - sisal, jute, hemp, cotton. What's paracord made out of?

Dont have to be sorry thats why im asking. I plan on doing a michaels trip tomorrow and poss walmart any toys/materials you guy can recc picking up to make toys

we use hemp rope here for the playgyms and one for our gala to stand on.
She chews trough all the wooden perches and wonders why she falls.

lol ill post a photo of mine in progress.. now its a little bigger as im expecting to get 2 more birds (friends) a yha and a grey any building tips would be great as well... none of this is cemented yet as im worried about the fumes of the primer and the pvc cement and the bird.

at the top in the middle will be a swing... there will be a ladder going from the floor to the first row in the back then the first row to the middle bar. there will be a few foraging dishes and toys (gotta make them lol)

that is in a 4' x 3' kinda hole in the wall lol not sure why it was built but I love it as it fits the gym nicely and I have a kitty so it also makes them feel safe as its protected on 3 sides now the cat would never do anything but you know what ever makes the birds happy... So cant wait to get my 2 new crew
