I have two kakarikis, Kiwi and Riki. I was told they were both female, I'm certain that Riki is female. They've been trying to mate recently and I want to check if Kiwi is female. I've heard they can have same sex pairs? Kiwi isn't tame so it's difficult to take good pictures, I'll try catch them if these aren't good enough.

I've heard that the males have a larger beak than the females. And that it's easy to tell if they are next to each other. I'm not sure if that's true though. I've never seen Kakarikis other than in photos/videos.
Your bird is beautiful either way.

I've seen a male side by side with Riki and he was much larger than her, where as Kiwi is a similar size to Riki. They do have larger beaks and I've tried comparing but still not sure. Kiwi's beak looks slightly larger but not as big as some of the males in pictures. Thank you! Kakarikis have been my dream birds for years, happy to finally have them.
