Mandatory Testing?

Hello

The breeder I have been considering mentions on their website: [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Our breeding birds are all DNA disease tested for Polyoma, Pachecos, Psitticosis, and PBFD.

I'm wondering if I should absolutely get the bird tested for them anyway if I buy from them? Might be a good idea just to be sure, or would this be a waste of $300+?

Get written proof of these tests and get the phone number of the veterinarian doing the testing. See which lab is doing the test and contact them to verify their testing procedures.

TessieB's advice is spot on. Only thing I would add is to observe the precautions this breeder takes to protect their birds from exposure to disease. If their measures seem somewhat lax, you might want to test again anyway, regardless of the results.
After all, a negative result is no guarantee if the bird gets exposed AFTER the test has been taken.

I appreciate both of your comments, thank you. The breeder I'm considering is in Western Canada: Canadian Parrot Breeder, Parrot Breeders

I also found out tonight the vet by my place requires all tests to be done if you ever need to board the bird PLUS a chlamydia test. So it looks like I might have to.
