Haha congrats!

thanks :) im glad he is a boy :) his sisters attitude scares me some days LOL

Haha I'm hoping my Xander is a boy too. Girls can be moody sometimes :P I'm saving money to DNA him cause my parent wont pay though haha. I think I just need 20$ more.

how much does it cost for you? the company i went with was only 20!

I used avianbiotech and it was only 25

Happy you found and are thrilled with the results.
I had Mishka dna in December last year, ( 3 years old)
SHE was actually a boy and I too was so happy.
He learnt in a week changing from Mishka is a girl to Mishka is a boy mommy.

It costs about 60$ were I found a place that does it. I think 'll be looking for a place that does 20$ now though!

Parrot Parrent, look at avianbiotech.com $25 :) And the results were really fast.

Mango is such a handsome lil boy! :)

I'm looking at it now and I've just sent for a kit so I can send in the feathers. Any tips on how to extract the feathers? I dont want to hurt my lil guy but the website doesnt say anything on how to actually pluck the feathers.

you pull them from the chest and place them in a zip lock bag marked with the birds name, species, and your name on the bag with permanant marker. they send you the instructions. you send the payment back with the kit. its canadian, so keep that in mind.

i did the blood test as thats what this company prefers, and it wasnt that hard. mango took it very well. sat still and let me clip his nail short and get a few drops onto the card. put corn starch on it, made sure he was done bleeding, gave him some spray millet and let him go on with his day. it was like it never happened lol

so i think they need a good amount of feathers... but they have to be from the chest. and have to be plucked, not molted. so towel him, make sure his head is covered if you dont want him seeing you do it. take tweezers and pluck. its like plucking eyebrows (if you are a girl)... though likely the more sensative areas on the eyebrows like closest to the eyes LOL give him LOTS of his favourite treats after and he should forgive you pretty fast

I was too chicken to pull the feathers myself, so I brought my kit with me when I picked him up and the breeder did it for me. Rio didn't react like it was bothering him at all, she just held him in her hand and quickly plucked a few chest feathers.

oh, depending where you are, the kit may take a few days to 2 weeks to get to you... it took 3-4 days to get to me, but im 4 hours away from the city its from. thats the longest wait. and then sending it back in, it took the same amount of time to send back but the same day in the evening they emailed me the results

Thanks for the info! I think I'll have my sister told him while I get a few feathers when the kit comes (and yea I'm a girl who gets her eyebrows threaded and it hurts so much the closer to the eye it is! I teary eye it every time lol). I'll keep extra treats on hand and give him LOTS of play time with his favorite ball

they send you the instructions in the mail with the kit, its all very easy too
