So I adopted Marley, a Goffin Cockatoo, two weeks ago. I took him to the vet today. I asked about his leg band, it's an open band and by the stamp on it it looks like he was wild caught before 1989. (It's been illegal since 89) So he's at least 25 years old.

He was such a good boy at the vet. He jumped up on my arm and just wanted to cuddle with me, which made me very happy because although he hasn't bitten me the possibility is always there and being at the vet is scary but he was super good and all the ladies fell in love with him.

They did a gram stain - tested fine
Blood work - waiting on results

Said he's a little overweight :O this surprised me because I would think the change of a new house would cause weight loss but nope.

They said his mouth looked great, his feathers are beautiful and all in all he looked very healthy. We will have to wait on the results of the blood test but so far so good.

They are also going to run a DNA sex test. I was told he's male but without the test I can't be sure.

That is great, goffins are great. We have two wild caught goffins at the rescue at the moment and the they are great although they are bonded. The funny little guys, enjoyment just watching them. Sounds like he is off to a great start already.

Just to clarify and not trying t be rude, but eyes are lies. the owner of the resue has a umbrella with brown brown almost red eyes and it is DNA sexed 100% male. So the whole eye thing can be a lie it is seldomly right but a DNA sex is the best way to go.
