While I was sitting here reading the forum, Max all of a sudden started screaming... He had got his head stuck in a baby ring (those that can be put together)... I had a long strand hanging from the side of his cage... He was fighting hard to free himself with no luck.

I was sure I was going to get bitten, as he was so scared, but he let me pull his head out without even putting his beak on me... Such a brave little man...

His reward for being so brave came via post, just before the incident, which was a whole lot of new foot toys... and he got stuck into them immediately.

Those rings have now be removed to the cage, and I'm so glad I wasn't at work...

I'm so glad to hear he is okay! My heart sunk when I read the title, I thought for sure he was no longer with us. I have heard countless horror stories of things like this happening to birds, but aside from watching them carefully, it's kind of a hard thing to avoid. Freak accidents can happen anytime, I'm so glad you were home and near him to intervene!
Occasionally, I will hear one of our birds make a strange screech and then jump around and everytime it happens, I run to the cage because I'm afraid they may have gotten stuck on something somehow, luckily, they are always just playing, but it still gives me a good scare.

I'm glad he's ok! How very scarey for you both. Can you post a picture of the toy so we can all be aware?

I'm so glad you weren't at work either. I was afraid to click on the post. I've luckily never had a bird catch a toe, wing or it's neck on a toy, but I know it happens.

When one of my horses was a baby she somehow got her head stuck in the stall door. To this day I have no idea how she did it. There was maybe a 1" crack between the door and post! Thankfully I was right there when it happened and was able to free her without either of us getting injured.

People and animals can both get into some amazing predicaments sometimes. Someone was watching out for you today.

OMG how awful and scary for both of you. You just never know what toys are possibly dangerous. I think many people use those interlocking rings.

Thats so scary, I freaked when I saw the title! Lucky he's okay. I would like to see photos of the toy too :(

I am so glad he is okay, I had a similar incident with my Bella a few weeks ago.. I had some rings in her cage and my daughter was home luckily but she got hung and my daughter got her just in time but my daughter did get bitten because she was so scared but that toy was taken out immediately. they need to examine toys more because that was very scarey and if someone was not there we would not have our birds today... Again I am so glad your bird is ok..

Glad he is ok!!! I would love to see a picture of that toy as well....

I'm glad he's okay! I think I know what you're talking about, but I'd like to see a picture too. I think I almost bought some today... D:

I have tried to search online for those rings, but can't find them... I do have a picture of Max in his cage, where the rings were, but I don't know how to upload a picture...

The rings are plastic in bright colours, they have a small gap with 'knobs', so you can put another ring on.... These were even popular, when I had my kids in the '70's...

They would probably be fine for smaller birds.... but not for a bird of similar size to an Alexandrine...

Thanks for all your replies...

Its supposed to be a link to ebay lol sorry. :(

So glad it had a happy ending OMG imagine if you were at work
Count your lucky blessings

Its supposed to be a link to ebay lol sorry. :(

I kept trying to post ebay links a couple of days ago as well and they all went to some other website about John Belushi:confused: Yet they worked fine in my email to the owners of the African Grey I'm adopting, lol!
