So in my reading i've found mixed reviews on including meat in my CAG's diet. I know that some feel it's perfectly helpful for the diets of large parrots and some feel its bad for their liver.

I'm a bit on the fence here and no one really says which meats they can/cannot have. Obviously processed foods like hotdogs and bologna are a nono, they barely count as food anyways? But what about food like sausage? flavored meats is where i'm a bit lost. I know people feel their bird whatever they eat, so some birds must be eating stuff like this right?

What meats does your bird eat? :36::37::39:

chicken turkey a little beak full of pork or beef never let mine have much fried. They love chicken bones with just a little meat on them.

The closer to nature the meat is, the better. I'd avoid stuff with added salt, sausages, etc. Red meat isn't healthy either , and I think I've heard stuff about sea food too. A little bit of red meat should be okay, but not much, just like with humans. Puck likes chicken.

Mishka enjoys chicken bones, little bit of chicken left on for him.
He loves T-Bone steak, give him the bone, he sits there for ages, munching the meat off.
If we having a stew, he gets some for dinner, no matter what meat we use.

Just me but I never eat pork, I reckon it's unhealthy (who wants to eat a pig anyway) so Mishka does not eat park as well.

i think the closer to nature comment is best guild and as long as your not over feeding the meat i cannot see a problem

nut loves chicken bones with the grissle bet at the end,

also any food prepared mixed with meat can go off within hours, so feed an remove excess

nuts fav protien fix is egg white

Ville eat chicken and some steak. He just love bones

I cannot imagine parrots in the wild will turn up their noses at fruits or nuts with worms and beetles in them. A bit of animal protein imho is good and important for their health.

And what about omega 3? Good for birdie and I got to take Tinkerbell leftover salmon sashimi that I then dipped into soya and wasabi.

On the other hand, Riamfada got to munch my chicken bone after I finished with most of the meat on it.

Everything in moderation. I try to avoid a lot of the chemicals and preservatives that are geared to be harmless to humans. Tragically, I have found that not everything that is harmless to humans is harmless to parrots.

A bit of chicken when I am having it. Even a french fry for a rare treat is okay...just don't make it a habit. Gandalf loved tuna. Bitty LOVES cheese, though I have heard that parrots can't digest dairy. (psssst...don't tell them that.)

I think the hope is to provide them something new and interesting. A pelletized diet is great from a nutritional standpoint, but you or I would go insane if we ate the same thing every day of our life. In the wild, every day would be full of new things to nibble on. And seasonal shortages would mean not all foods are available year round.

Mix it up, folks. ;)

Thanks guys! This is a lot of helpful information that will help to vary Kevin's diet and hopefully get him interested in something other than his birdie mash.

does meat not make parrots agresive?

I do not know where you got that from.
Tinkerbell is a carnivore. When steak was around, she would want that.
When pork was around, she would demand some of that.
Since I am a happy carnivore, she got to share in all the food that I ate. As also the case for her and Yu , her current caregiver.

Yet she was always so gentle. In fact, I wished she would give ripping chomps on so many people who touched her uninvited. She never did so to them.

Riamfada on the other hand was a card carrying Vegan such that I had to sneak animal protein or egg yolk from hard boiled egg into her mash from time to time. It took well over a year for her to get to even try the chicken bone. Yet, Riam was so much more aggressive. Lightning fast reflexes, much much faster than those who thought they could sneak in a feel on her.

Food for your thoughts.

Max will eat meat from bones I have been eating... This doesn't make him or me a carnivore, but an omnivore... We eat everything... lol

my birds eat chicken, fish, steak, lamb,a little pork, sausage, mince, but as i found out tonight they now have joined the cats and dogs, and love kangaroo steaks and they love getting any of there meats on the bone, they strip the bones to nothing.

i was kinda wondering the same thing. i guess next time we eat chicken ill give a bit to cooper :) are there any spices or ways to cook that i should avoid? we usually grill chicken and use a bunch of different spices. is that okay? and as for bones, are bones from chicken wings okay? thats about the only chicken bones we get cuz we buy boneless chicken..

grilled is fine with the spices just go to the herb section and double check that its not on the danger side and it will be fine the chicken wing bone is fine just take the wing tip off the other thing you take the skin off well i do.
