Merry Christmas from Trish, Roxanne, Seamus, Genevieve, Dominic, Barney, Madge, Pineapple, Angel, Dusk, Shadow and Twilight.
It's Boxing Day over here and I've already had an interesting morning. Miss Roxanne (Bull Terrier) found a very large Blue Tongue Lizard out in the garden bed. I heard her barking and very luckily managed to seize the lizard before she bit it. Unfortunately, all the hurrying gave me a bit of an asthma attack, so I had to walk very quickly inside and sit down on my bed with the (very large) lizard still clutched in my hands. The lizard's hissing woke my husband, which didn't help much: he doesn't 'do' lizards. He did, however, get me my puffer so that bit was good.
Once I was able to breathe clearly again, I had to lock the dog inside and find a safe place to put Ms Lizard (who happened to be full of babies and was just about ready to drop her little bundles of joy). Ms Lizard, of course, was hell-bent on gumming me to death (they don't have sharp teeth - just flat plate-like ones for grinding). She inflated herself to about twice her size and was hissing away at me like an old kettle.
Blue Tongues are surprisingly strong and muscular, so it took a bit of wrangling to get Ms Lizard released into the upper garden bed where my husband has installed PVC pipes for lizard safety. She went off, hissing irritably to herself and without a shred of gratitude to me, her saviour.
I expect in the next week or so we'll be finding various little six-inch baby Blueys around the garden, so I'll have to keep an eye on Miss Rox until they're safely on their way.
