A friend of my sister's, Jessica bird and African Grey named Rio flew out the lounge door.
They have had Rio for 19 years.
The guardians were devastated and tried everything to get the bird back.
They placed the cage outside, with food and water available.
Made flyers and distributed them on stop street signs, shopping centers, in a few vets rooms, on tree posts and went door to door. Put an urgent ad on many radio stations.
They were fearing the worst as it has been raining here with bad thunderstorms and lightening GALORE.
On the 9th day they got a call from a lady saying she thinks she has their bird. She asked for the number on the ring IT WAS THEIR BIRD.
They got the address and immediately went there.
It was in another suburb about 20km away. How Rio ever got there was a mystery, his wings are clipped (he was due to have them clipped the day he flew away)
The lady told them she heard "someone" saying "hello hello" and went to the door. Never saw anyone and did not open the door.
A few minutes later she heard again "hello hello" and went and opened the door.
Still not seeing anyone she then again closed the door.
After the third time of hearing someone saying "hello hello" she opened the door and stepped outside. As she took a step outside "something" nibbled her toe. She looked down and there was Rio.
Rio politely walked straight into her house and sat on the couch.
The poor lady is petrified of birds and remained a distance away.
She immediately telephone the number on the flyer.
There were many tears of rejoice, knowing how lucky Rio was.
If he had not been able to say hello, and was not spotted who knows if he would have survived.
