Mission, get Jojo out of the cage

So taking advice from my last post, I am going to try and get Jojo out of his cage. Problem is, so far his cage door has been open for 3 hours and he has zero interest in going out, even with millet right outside the door. UPDATE: He went down....to grab his fallen feather and got right back up. This is going to take a while EDIT2: I got him to poke his head out using his feather as bait, still wont step outside. EDIT3: Well he is out, but he is just circling his cage, and trying to get back into the cage through the back

Final Edit: So after an entire day outside, I can definitely see some changes in Jojo's attitude. He is much more calm and relaxed when I move in and out of his cage. Before he would look down or flinch, now he doesn't react at all. I also hope that after he finally stepped up onto something that the next time I try and get him to step up it will be easier.

Ok, would it be a bad idea to bait him away from his cage using bird noises? EDIT: Ok so it kinda worked, but he didnt really seem to care

Good! Be patient, if he doesn't want to come out, that's ok. He might be afraid to come out, because of the incident you described from last time he was out. Keep trying until he eventually overcomes his fear. And as far as what to do if he doesn't want to interact with you, don't do anything just open the cage door, and observe what happens. Don't try to interact with him at all, if he doesn't want to. Try to convince him that being out is safe and fun He has to get small positive experiences from being out of the cage, so he can overcome his fear. This might take a while. Keep trying, everyday from now on, or when you have the time

So far going well, he is no longer stuck to the cage and is calmly watching me and listening to music he is also willing to eat millet that i give him

Wonderful to see he's out! Congrats with the progress! This is a huge step, and he is interacting with you, maybe this is what he wanted all along My bird also jump on my glasses, it's so funny! like what are you doing, silly bird! haha

Just realized, I can give him food and millet. But what do I do about water? Do I just leave a bowl outside for him to drink when he wants? Also what do I do when it comes time to get him inside the cage again?

Wait and see if he goes back by himself when he gets tired, after all he is used to sleeping in his cage. So as a rule of thumb don't do anything, until you can determine that he's def not going back himself. This is where it gets tricky, and you have to be creative and try to lure him with millet, or what you can think of. The only thing i won't reccomend is to chase him around, you will loose ALL trust if you do that, and he will have reason to be afraid of you, that is something that you don't want. And if it gets completely impossible to get him back in the cage, consider to allow him to spend the night where he wants. And then get him back in the cage with his morning meal, bird's gotta eat. So he will eventually go back to the cage to eat This is the best advice i can give. I've just let my bird live in my apartment since the day i got him. Although, im currently introducing a new schedule, encouriging him to go in the cage with his evening meal. Just build a new cage for him, so he haven't been inside the new cage yet, so small baby steps in the right direction will eventually get him used to this new routine. Your bird is also going to adapt to this new schedule, if you're planning on letting him out every day, which i hope you will, it seems like he is really enjoying his freedom

Ok, I somehow managed to get him to step up onto a pencil and get him inside his cage again. i think that for now this is only going to be a weekend thing until he can get in and out of the cage more easily

I had to help because he wanted to get in the cage, but was trying to get in through the roof. I had to chase him around a bit, but he was pretty calm. He seems happy now to be back inside and he immediately went to eat his food.

sounds like Jojo had a fun day. JM0 is perfectly right about just letting them do their thing and chilling out. It's how my conure decided I was a friend, I just chilled on the sofa and he came over to me

food is always a good reward to get back in. I would show my conure a piece of raisin (his treat, let him nibble a tiny bit then show him the rest being put into a cage on one of the perches by the door. He'd be dying to get in then.

Also as for your moment of him on your glasses, this was me most times I had Rio out.
