~ my parrot is african ringneck ~

I've only had my parrot for like 2 weeks, and so far it's been going pretty okay.

He's still scared of hands (and people getting really close to his cage), but he has started chirping which means hes getting more comfortable!! yay

the question i have for you guys today is

do you think it is a good idea for me to spray him from a distance so he can take a bath even tho he's not tamed? i don't think he has experienced it before since i doubt the people who were selling him provided him with that. he probably needs a shower. haha. btw i know its supposed to be like a mist.

or should i wait til he's more comfortable with me? :green1:

Yes misting is a great idea for a bird that seems a bit reluctant to bathe in a dish. Just make sure you don’t squirt the water directly in the bird’s face, rather aim the nozzle upward so the water falls gently like a natural rain shower. All of my guys have always loved a shower :)

Yes, as a rule...BUT, how long have you had him/her (that could change things) and is it warm in your home?
Also, do change the water every time--don't let it sit.

Personally I'd provide lots of water bowls in his cage and wait on the misting (unless you've already tried it). My two parrots don't like misting and when doing it make sure you don't have one of those noisy misters because that can frighten them.

His temporary cage isnt big enough for extra bowls. But I will provide them when he gets his bigger cage

I would hold off on misting until he trusts you more.

You could try putting a sturdy shallow dish at the bottom of his cage and see if he splashes in there, but be mindful of drafts in the home/temp if he is wet. Also, your bird may poop in the water while playing and if/he/she is playing and drinking at the same time, you will need to be able to take it out, wash it and replace the water. I also wouldn't leave it in there unattended.

okay i will wait, i'll wait a little longer before i put the dish in as well, as me putting anything in his cage stresses him out
