Mango seems to be going through a heavy molt, I don't think it's plucking because I never see him pulling anything out plus there are yellow feathers from his head. He is acting normal, eating well and other then his feathers look like crap and a little sparce especially on his belly, everything is fine. I see new feathers coming in.

Should I be concerned?

This is his first molt of his life.

Funny you asked this, because I was worried myself....
Simba and Marley both are loosing so much of their cover. Simba was sitting without moving at one point yesterday, and it was like snowing...no kidding. They both are molting for a while now, I would say more than one month.....
So, if what I have is normal....I would say you shouldn't worry.
But maybe some people with more years of experience under their belts could chime in....

Keep an eye on them but I think they're fine. Felix is going through the same thing my vet said make sure he is warm at night (so we have him in a heated sleepy cage) and gets a really healthy diet!

Both of my zons just finished molting. They do it rather quickly, less than 2 weeks and they look brand spanking new. :D

How often do they molt?

My bird is looking a bit scruffy as well. If I had not seen a lot of feathers at the bottom of the cage, I would have been very worried. This is my first molt with this bird. is there anything I should know while going through this? Personality changes? Is this a prelude to hormonal season?
