Hi, I have had my Gcc for 2 months, they said he was 6 months old, when should I expect him to molt?
Thanks,
katina and skitzo

At around 8 months old, but that's often subjective and one bird may molt at 7 months, while another of the same species might go a year.....that must be one crazy bird to get named Skitzo!

As weco said, different parrots molt at different times. When a parrot molts depends on a number of variables including lighting, age, and species. Some parrots go through a definative molt while others slowly molt one feather one week, a different one the next. My caique tends to go through phases where she'll molt out all her head feathers over a couple of weeks or all her belly feathers over a few days. She was clipped by the breeder I purchased her from a little over a year ago, and her flight feathers started coming in almost exactly a year after they were clipped, so I'm assuming she goes through one full molt per year. It just depends on your bird, though, so you'll have to observe and discover your own parrot's molting patterns yourself. :) Also, if you feel like doing some reading on molting, this website is pretty awesome: All About Your Parrot's Feathers - The Causes Of Molt, Feather Problems And What You Can Do About Them

Yes, we had a few problem the first week, was planning to name him skittles. Trust me skitzo fits my baby, one minute he will be rub his beak on my face and gently pull my eye lashes then he flies to my hand where he attack my hand. Found out he doesn't like my long nails and that was what caused him to attack my nails
thank you
katina

Mine used to do that the first couple of weeks
We are on week 3 now and he seems to be settling in realy nicely hardly any biteing now
