Hi All

Mum has brought me a bag of Monkey Nuts - peanuts in shells - from the pet shop today, in the bird section.
Am I ok to eat them? I am confused by reading about peanuts being bad for me & then finding them in my food etc.
Thanks all
Love Luna

They're not great for parrots -- high in fat, and especially if in-shell are known to carry fungal diseases that can spread to parrots. Unless they are unshelled, washed and cleaned for human consumption...I wouldn't give them to your parrot.

Here's a great read.... Are peanuts safe for parrots?

"Human peanuts" are heated to get rid of fungus etc. and probably to improve the rather mealy taste (a peanut is really more an underground growing pea, not a nut).
"Birdy peanuts" are not heat-treated and may contain loads of fungy (and their spores) you (as a parront) do not want anywhere near your parrot.
Especially the shells are usualy not very 'clean'.

The advice most people will give you is : dont feed your bird peanuts of any kind.
Apart from all the potential healthhazzards peanuts are verry fatty but not very nutritional (so "empty calories" rather than good food).

-so they are roughly speaking "fastfood-with-fungus"
