I read that its normal for amazons to have a bit of a natural musk to them, but my amazon smells pretty unpleasant and i want to know if its something i need to be worried about. Id describe it as a ferret/faint stinky shoe smell. He’s smelled this way for the entirety that ive owned him, and the smell remains after his showers/baths. I heard that their scent can change depending on their moods and that stress can cause unpleasant scents. He doesn't seem stressed, and i try my best to keep him happy so i hope thats not the case and its hopefully just his natural smell. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ❤️

What you describe sounds like a typical amazons smell although I never had a ferret.
I describe my amazons smell like a coat closet that has been closed all summer long and when the weather gets cold you grab a jacket and it has a similar smell.

It’s never bothered me even when he’s leaning right against my face and my nose is buried in his feathers.

I've never noticed any parrots smelling unpleasant. I think they smell great, especially macaws which smell wonderful. My budgies smell nice- their cages not so much if I'm not on top of cleaning them. I change their cage paper and vacuum them out every two days but right now after a long winter they need a power wash. I keep my house aired out well but when we go out of town for a week the house smells like bird cage because the bird sitter isn't required to clean.

Salty, my Amazon, only gives off a smell when he is extremely happy. It smells like Christmas cookies! Hey could be worse, friend, he could smell like wet dog!

I love smelling parrots!

I consider myself a cheerful afficionado. A few notes... You gotta get your nose up under the wing for the full experience!
Cockatiels smell like sun-dried laundry.
Cockatoos... same but with a recent rainstorm...
Macaws smell like fruit or fruit pastries.
Amazons range from spicy cookies to musky.
Various conures... soap, Windex, beer...
Patagonians smell like chocolate bar wrappers. Yeah!
