B&G Macaw
Hi Guys,

Just Said I'd Into Myself :) I'm Mark.

Birdie Is Cheryl Blue & Gold Macaw 8 Years Old This Year I Think, Probably Have Her A Year At This Stage (Maybe Just A Little Under) :green:

She's Quite Playful , Loves To Have Her Head Scratched And Belly Rubbed. Has No Problem "Stepping Up" And Loves Toys She Can Destruct!

Talking Is A Minimum, Apart From The Hello To The Neighbors When She's In The Garden, Any Ways I Can Improve This? And Help Make Her Speech Clearer? I Know Macaws, Especially Females Aren't Great Talkers But I've Heard Her Hello Amazingly Clear!

She Was Adopted From A Couple Who Were Leaving The Country, Took A While For Her To Come Around In The New Surroundings, And She Seems Quite Pleased Where She Is, Although She Is A Screecher, especially If She Knows Your Leaving. Something Else I Haven't Been Able To Get A Handle On.

Anyway Thats Me And Cheryl, Looking Forward To Meeting Lots Of Other Owners :)

Hello Mark, welcome to the forum.....

As to teaching her new vocabulary, some people let their birds watch children's programs all day.....

Good luck.....

Welcome Mark! I think just working with her and talking to her a lot may help. Not all birds talk a whole lot but it would be worth trying. Always use words when interacting with her. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum, Mark & Cheryl. :)

Cheryl sound like a lovely young lady. To improve her speech, you could (time permitting) do several short speech sessions per day. Repeat a word or a phrase over and over, slowly and clearly.

My B&G is quite a good talker. He is only 3, and he's FINALLY mastered to say "I love you." For the LONGEST time he'd go "I" "I" "I"....then, WEEKS later he was saying "I love..." "I love..." Each time I would finish for him and say "YOU", and then I'd say the whole thing again. I swear, it took him forever to finally say the whole thing.

For some strange reason he learned "God bless you" before saying "I love you", even though he says it like "God biss youuuuu". :D (after a sneeze)

Take your time with Cheryl. If she's managed to say a word or so clearly, she'll be able to learn more.
