My bourke Quinn

I don't know if I ever posted about my bourke, but in August of last year I got a bourke. I named him Quinn. Definitely not what I expected.
He's quieter then my other birds, doesn't really chew on anything, doesn't make a big mess, he just kinda sits there and stares into your soul...until you let him out. When he is out of the cage he loves to fly around. Quinn is, by far, the most graceful flyer I have ever had.
Despite being the easiest to care for of all my birds, I kinda regret getting him.
I prefer my birds loud and messy.
Even though I regret him I love him. I love him and he will get the best life living with me and my flock. He loves intuen pellets, but not intune harmony! Found out the hard way during the pandemic and couldn't find the normal one so bought harmony instead. He didn't touch it so I gave him seeds until I was able to get the normal intune pellets. Elvis shares a special bond with Quinn, and by that I mean it's a one-way kinda bond. Quinn wants nothing to do with him. Quinn took a liking to Opal before she passed, and she was the only bird Quinn formed a bond with, he has been lonely ever since, but starts to call to the budgies when he can't see them, so maybe he'll bond with one of my current budgies? He should really have another bourke to bond with, but a) I don't really want another bourke and b) He is the first bourke I have ever seen in Maine, I'll never be able to find another even if I wanted to!
He's cute, I love him and he gets plenty of out-of-cage time to fly around. He also has Elvis' cage, since Elvis was upgraded to an A&E flight cage.

Lovely looking bourke. Did you get it DNA'd so you know it's a male? With that mutation it would be impossible to work out by looking. One of my favourite small parrot species. The male has a lovely little whistle. Very quiet little guys until around dusk when they get active. In the wild this is when they are most active as they will be flying on to the next watering hole.

I don't recall ever getting him DNA'd, I just assumed male because of behavior, although there was a short period of time where he'd try to get into small dark places, but he doesn't do that anymore. I have thought of the possibility that he is actually a she, but I guess it doesn't really matter since I'm not breeding him. I love the little peeps he makes, he is quite vocal at dusk and dawn, quiet but vocal.

I looked at bourkes before I got my budgies but none of the ones I saw were pretty like that!

No it doesn't really matter I only asked as the male bourke has a lovely little call. It's not loud but it is quite pretty for a parrot.

Usually you find pink bourkes or wild types up for sale. Not sure but I think Quinn is a Lutino. The personality of a bourke is usually what people like more than appearance. Quieter than a budgie and about the same size. Not quite as messy and very gentle.

I could take a hold of one of my wild aviary bourkes and they will nibble and almost never draw blood. Only if they get a delicate bit of skin. If I did that with a budgie I would end up bleeding.

Personally I think they are a better bird for children to start with than a budgie.

He is rubino, I had the choice of him or a rosy, I thought the yellow looked better with pink then the black.

I got him while I was at a small pet store, it was my first time at this store. It had a small but very good selection of toys. I had bought a foam dice toy for Elvis there.
I saw they had a lovebird, and I was tempted since I missed Jordan, my lovie who passed in 2018. I also saw they had a pair of bourkes available.
I once saw that petco had a bourke (the bird itself wasn't there, the price tag was still there) for $400. When I found this bird for a fraction of that price I impulsively bought it. I haven't seen any since. Still looking for a lovebird, also haven't seen any since that day, but I love my little Quinn. Definitely not my type of bird, but I love him. He steps up, but only when he is ready to go back to his cage. Other then that he'll fly away from people.

Quinn is a very handsome guy. I didn't realize they were so small,I thought they were the size of maybe a Goffin 'too.
