It's been a long few weeks waiting for him to be ready. He is eating on his own. I still offer my guys the occasional hand feeding and he will be no exception, even though he is weaned.

Leaving the house today was a bear. My fibromyalgia has been flaring bad this week from the overcast skies and rain storms. Alas, I had my husband load my wheelchair for me this morning and get Molly (foster CAG) in her travel cage so the breeder could trim her beak for us. He also pressure washed the baby's cage last night and we got it all set up with his new toys and gear. I got all my King's cages secondhand and they were missing their perches. I ordered replacements but they aren't here. I'm also keeping an eye out for more matching cages, because I love the build quality of these. They don't compare to my old California Cages but they no longer exist.

The drive was about an hour and car rides are always really hard on my spine. She was right on time and we went over everything one more time. And off we go, headed home!

Leaving our meeting spot (I've been to her home but it's over 1.5 hours away and she knows my situation and met me halfway.)

In the driveway:

We finally got inside and I let him hang in the travel cage with the food the breeder feeds (PrettyBird Eclectus) plus about 70% of my veggie mash, curious if he would show interest. I made sure he was all set so I could get back to bed. I had to move Molly back into her cage, and as expected, she bit the crap out of me so I wrapped my hand in a towel four times and she viciously attacked it as I swiftly shoved her into her cage.

After a solid nap, I came back out to find the baby had been picking out MY mash and leaving the pellets behind!!! I want to jump for joy but my legs don't work that well :)

I took him out, weighed him and documented it, and he tried to fly a few times. It's the most adorable thing EVER. He practiced using his sweet beak on my finger and did apply too much pressure. I need to look into bite pressure training Mark had mentioned to see if we can have two Ekkies who never bite.

My husband came home and we got his cage set up and then I hand fed the baby some formula and he enjoyed it for a bit but he was so full from eating before, I think I had more on me and him than anywhere else!

Here's his cage with the custom toys I ordered off Etsy, plus some other new stuff I bought:

And finally, BED TIME! He had an eventful day, and I have an absolutely exhausting day. Leaving the house is always a big deal and I pay for it for at least three days afterwards. I wiped the food off of him from our little feeding but he is still the cutest thing ever.

The most interesting part of the day was Persie, by far. She was doing her mating call/scream when she heard me talking to another bird from the other room. I went to see what the fuss was all about once she quieted down, and she was bowing over, swaying back and forth from foot to foot, begging to come out. I've never seen her do this. I took her out and she flat refused to go on her bird stand. I tried to coerce her but she ran up my arm! She saw the baby from the other room and just kept doing her swaying and bobbing. I can't believe how bonded we are in under two weeks.

We brought her in our room and ate dinner with her on the bed. We had pasta with really spicy red pepper sauce and she downed a BUNCH of it. Probably like 2 whole lengths of spaghetti. Definitely a little piggy! She snuggled under the covers for two hours and that seemed to make up for her being in her cage most of the day while I was gone.

If this is how all Eclectus are, I will never get anything else.

Oh be still my heart, he's beautiful! And already so spoiled, but rightfully so~

I'm sorry to hear about your condition. :( My friend has the same and she constantly feels like no one validates her pain. It must be rough. But I am glad to see it doesn't stop you from doing some things that you love. :D

Any name ideas for the baby yet? I can't wait to see more of him and Persephone!

I've had 8 surgeries in the last three years. It sucks but I focus on what I DO have versus what I don't.

As for names, I am terrible at naming pets in a timely fashion. It's going to be awhile, as he has yet to develop a personality. I was totally unaware that baby birds are such potato birds... It's simply adorable and I can't get enough of it. I just don't want to screw it up.

That's wonderful. (Not the surgeries, but the latter :p )

I totally get you. I take forever to come up with names. They have to have meaning, they have to be unique or quirky. But when it comes to you, it sticks!

Hahaha, potato bird, I like that. :D Impossible for you to screw it up.. you put so much love into their care. He'll be all over you soon just like Persie, I have a feeling anyway.

Great Pictures Brittany. Looking forward to more. That was so nice of her to meet you 1/2 way.

The only bird I have owned is the Mac I have now . LOVE BB but looking at baby pictures makes me want another Fid.

Congrats! I vote for tater-tot. or spud :D. Did you get him from Jane and Scott?

Love spud! CUTE!
(Also loving on the photos ;) )

I got him from a friend who is also a breeder. I will probably eventually get a baby from Jane and Scott, though. They have beautiful birds! It will take a long time to save up though. I'm thinking maybe a Vos for my next Ekkie. We still have to decide if Molly the foster is staying or not. My husband and her have bonded and he is not a bird person. He simply tolerates my problem.

No idea why but I started called him Scooter. I don't even like the name much but it fits him. It may stick!

Congratulations on the new arrival, Brittany! Sweet looking little guy! And sounds like he's off to a good start, showing a preference for your chop to the pellets! Looking forward to some video and more pics.
