One Green Cheeked Conure, name Chloe. And two parakeets - Opal and Jade.
Hello everyone :) My name is Leslie and I adopted a female Green Cheeked Conure two days ago (17 April). It's a silly little story - she was housed where I get most of my pet supplies - for about the last three months. And for those three months every time I went in I visited her and had a little chat and felt terrible for leaving her behind. Finally on Wednesday I took the plunge and brought her home :D She has a good sized cage (24.75 in x 20.75 in x 34 in) though spends a lot of her time perched outside of it or on my shoulder/back/head.

Unfortunately I haven't settled on a name for her - which I feel terrible about!

She seems very friendly. She's climbed on my should twice of her own doing and flapped from her cage to where I was sitting once. She rests near my cheek or chews on my clothes/preens my hair.

I put a fresh, clean corn cob in her cage yesterday, hanging from the ceiling - but she wasn't interesting - so getting her to eat fruits and veggies may take some time!

I don't regret bring her home for a moment. (and I am aware of her potential lifespan :) I also have two budgies, two dogs, two gerbils, three ferrets, a cat and a fish tank :p

For myself I enjoy photography, paper crafts, writing, reading and playing video games. I'm also married and thirty-two years old :D

Also - any Green Cheeked Conure information you would like to through at me - I'm open for it!! :D

I'm new here too, this is a great site! So much information! I just got a green cheek myself, so I'm learning as well, they are so much fun! Good luck with your new baby! I haven't settled on a name either, so I've just been calling mine squeaky, I just haven't found another name that really suits him other than rascal, or booger! In time you'll find the perfect name. Welcome!

That's a beautiful photo of her in your signature.

You'll decide on a perfect name in time, one day it will just hit you and you'll realize it's just what you were looking for. Both my fids came with names already, I'm glad neither came with a silly name haha.

Welcome to the forum!!!

I don't own a green cheek (or a pyrrhura conure), but they certainly are precious little gems!

Congrats!! They are so So cute and i'm glad you decided to take her home. I actually went to play with some green cheek babies after my sun conure died, because i really like them a lot and thought that may be my next bird. (That's when i saw the blue crown and "bells rang". I knew that was the bird for me right now.)

Thank you so much for responding everyone! We' feel quite comfortable and welcomed!

As for names... I was thinking in my head that someone had asked me her name and my automatic response was "Chloe". I wrote down a few more names, but when I looked up the meaning of "Chloe" I found that it is "Blooming green shoot/sprout." How perfect! This is looking to be the one :D

Welcome to the forum ! Your green is beautiful , I can't wait for my first conure

Oh its soooo cute! I am anxiously waiting on my first, a baby sun conure and I can hardly wait. I too just found this site and its awesome.... looking forward to seeing more pics of your baby.

I too am having a hard time picking a name, at the top of my list is Rosie, but I like loyla too :) I am going to think of it as a her, even though I may never know....lol. :rainbow1:

Welcome to the forum Leslie.:) Green Cheeks are sooo adorable! They make wonderful loving feathered kids. :D I have a pineapple girl named Peta. She came to me with that name & she is 6 yrs. old. Her favorite spot in the world is on my shoulder. ;)

I look forward to hearing lots more about 'Chloe' & the fun you have with her. Loved the story of how you decided she would be yours. I've been though Cheyenne many times back when my hubby drove a truck. I love it up in that part of the country. :red1:

Welcome, I'm new here too! It's a great site with tons of helpful people. I just ran into the same problem as you lol. I just got my gcc on thursday and have been going over and over what to name him. All of a sudden it came to me . . . Rizzy . . . it had a nice ring to it and bam it stuck just like that. It's such a relief too cuz I couldn't hardly sleep names just kept spinning in my head. Glad you found a perfect name for her (and it is such a perfect name what a great meaning). I've owned gcc before and they can get a bit nippy after they reach sexual maturity but all in all they're such clowns and wonderful birds to have (one of my personal favs). My biggest advice for you is to NOT get a birdie happy hut or anything like that. I have personally lost a conure to one recently and it is such heartbreak. I have also spoken to some knowledgable breeders who agree that they are just not necessary. That's just my opinion though but I had a sun conure who chewed up a brand new one overnight and got tangled in the strings and choked. I would also steer clear of stringy toys and lead based bell toys (my bird breeder told me about a lady who got one of his birds and the bird died of lead poisoning due to the lead in some of his toys). Sorry I don't mean to scare you I just feel it's better to be safe than sorry. I wish you a long happy life with your new baby. Congrats!!! I know just how thrilled you are.
